Eleven stayers will line up for the Listed Premier’s Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, and the depth of talent confirmed subsequently offers punters particularly good value from a betting standpoint.
Allergic carries winning form into the 2016 Premier’s Cup and remains an outright $3.10 favourite in betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Singing ($4), Sacred Master and Loophole; currently sharing the third line at $8 quotes.
Will Allergic justify favouritism and win the Premier’s Cup 2016, or will one of his classy rivals claim an upset win?
1st
Allergic ($3.10)
Allergic has been a consistent galloper for Godolphin throughout his entire racing career so far and should prove a little too sharp for the Premier’s Cup field on Saturday. Running third behind Delicacy and Werther in the 2015 edition of the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), the Street Cry gelding produced a number of typically smart efforts through a summer and autumn campaign; returning to the paddock after running second in each of the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m). Having taken out the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) a fortnight ago, Allergic has been confirmed to be partnered by James McDonald on Saturday.
2nd
Magic Hurricane ($12)
Defending champion Magic Hurricane has been charged with carrying a race-high 61kgs in the Premier’s Cup, but is undoubtedly the class horse of the field and is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run of fifth in the Spring Preview (1400m) a fortnight ago. Posting five wins and as many minors through twenty-one career starts, the Hurricane Run gelding progressed to second in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) following last year’s Premier’s Cup before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m). Brenton Avdulla will take the ride on Magic Hurricane, who should find a good position off pace from barrier 9.
3rd
Sacred Master ($8)
Kiwi import Sacred Master has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career, and should be offered his best chance to figure in Australia to date when he lines up for the Premier’s Cup 2016. Winning the Group 2 Avondale Cup (2400m) before finishing third in the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) in his final two starts for Tony Pike, Sacred Master has so-far finished eighth in each of the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) and Premier’s Cup Prelude for Chris Waller.
