Eight runners will line up for the featured Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Winx remains a clear and justifiable $1.14 favourite in 2016 Chelmsford Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Prized Icon ($7.50) and Hartnell ($11).
Will Winx justify favouritism and win the 2016 Chelmsford Stakes, or will one of her rivals post a major upset?
1st
Winx ($1.14)
Winx has posted ten consecutive race wins leading into the Chelmsford Stakes and will simply prove too good for her rivals once again on Saturday. Taking out each of the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) most notably last spring, Winx returned to racing this year for a typically smart win in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick. Subsequently claiming wins in each of the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), the Street Cry mare returned a fortnight ago to win the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and will again be partnered by Hugh Bowman on Saturday, from barrier 8.
2nd
Hartnell ($11)
Hartnell returned to racing for second behind Winx in the Warwick Stakes a fortnight ago and will only be better over the increased distance of the Chelmsford Stakes, and with a run under his belt. A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2015 edition of The BMW (2400m), Hartnell ran a credible fourth in the most recent edition of the Chelmsford Stakes before placing sixth in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and fifth in the Cox Plate most notably. James McDonald will ride Hartnell from barrier 2 in the Chelmsford Stakes.
3rd
Prized Icon ($7.50)
Prized Icon is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for fourth in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) and has been charged with carrying only 50.5kgs in the Chelmsford Stakes on Saturday. Finishing in the minors in each of the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m), Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m), the More Than Ready colt broke through for a maiden race win in the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) before repeating the dose in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 16th.
