A class line-up of stayers face off in the lucrative Magic Millions Trophy 2017 on Saturday, betting tips and the latest odds on the Gold Coast feature found below.
Sixteen runners are set to run in the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday card when the handicap clash jumps as Race 4 at 1:25pm (AEST).
Heading the current Magic Millions Trophy odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at a short $3.10 for the win is the in-form Boom Time for Lindsay Park.
The Flying Spur stallion chases a fourth win on the trot and has Craig Williams booked for the ride from gate two on the 54kg minimum.
He carried the same weight to victory last time out over 2500m at Flemington on December 17 and is in career best form.
The other major players in the Magic Millions Trophy betting markets this summer include the 61kg top weight Stratum Star ($3.90) drawn the rails and Centre Pivot ($6.50) looking to improve on a Summer Cup fifth to subsequent Gosford Cup winner Red Excitement from Boxing Day.
So will the top fancies get the job done for the Magic Millions Trophy punters or is an upset pending from the likes of Ben Currie’s last start winning mare at the distance Col ‘N’ Lil ($7.50) or even the early market mover San Telmo ($17 into $12) coming off a consistent string of top three runs?
1st
#4 Col ‘N’ Lil ($7.50)
Toowoomba-trained Bradbury’s Luck mare doesn’t know how to not show up. The grey has raced at the Gold Coast three times for two seconds and can break her maiden at the track this weekend with the right run. Group 2 placed, Group 1 performed and coming off an Eagle Farm win over the 2200m. Right distance and Kerrin McEvoy stays on from barrier three.
2nd
#1 Stratum Star ($3.90)
Think the bookies have the Magic Millions Trophy results just about right and even with the big weight, Darren Weir’s last start Group 1 winner in the Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in Perth is hard to knock. He runs from gate one so will be working to stay out of trouble, but is a main chance with Damian Lane aboard again. Distance query as he is yet to win over further than 2000m, but can’t leave out.
3rd
#3 Boom Time ($3.10)
Rock hard fit stallion for Lindsay Park. He’s won at this distance and drops back from 2500m at Flemington. Will be out front and trying to stay on pace throughout. If it pans out his way, Williams is the right hoop to get the job done for the punters.
