A key race on the Gold Coast Magic Millions race card on Saturday is the 2017 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas – betting tips and the updated odds for the Restricted Listed feature found below.
A full field of Magic Millions graduates face off in the Gold Coast Race 7 at 3:15pm (AEST) with plenty of class in this summer’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
All the money in Magic Millions Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is on the odds-on favourite Winning Rupert who is at $1.45 – but available at $1.60 with Enhanced Odds (T&Cs apply).
Bjorn Baker’s Written Tycoon colt has a flawless five-from-five career record so far headlined by a Group 2 win in the winter and a three length Eagle Farm victory over 1300m on New Year’s Eve.
Gets the two weeks between runs, will handle the 1400m no worries, drawn to win on gate six and has Brisbane’s best Jeff Lloyd riding again.
It is hard to see the winning streak of Winning Rupert ending with an upset Magic Millions 3YO Guineas result, but if it happens the most likely to score it will be dual Group 1 winning filly Global Glamour.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained daughter of Star Witness is out to atone for her first-up ninth in the in a Brisbane Black-Type on December 31.
She had a luckless resuming run over 1200m and will be improving greatly off that coming back from 59.5kg to 57kg in the Magic Millions Guineas getting out over more metres.
Both her elite level wins in the spring were over a mile so Saturday’s distance is an advantage, but she suffered the early blow drawing the second outside alley coming into 15 of 16.
So will the top two run the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas quinella on the weekend or is there value further down the markets in the likes of Eckstein ($13) looking to extend a big run of wins or even the Lindsay Park-trained Dam Ready ($34) who looks overs to place?
1st
#1 Winning Rupert ($1.45)
There’s little left to say about this five-time winner and dual Group champion who is only improving each time he steps out. He is very short in the markets, but deservedly so and after coming up trumps in the barrier draw will be winning again with Lloyd in the saddle. Saluted in Brisbane last start over 1300m by the big margin so won’t have any problems at 1400m.
2nd
#10 Candika ($34)
Throwing some value in the Magic Millions tips via this Steven O’dea-trained Sebring filly who was third to Capitalist in the MM Classic here last summer. Handles the track and was only 2.5 lengths off Winning Rupert in the Champagne Classic during the winter. Group 1 performed over a mile since, second in stakes company first-up and Vo Rogue Plate fifth wasn’t bad.
3rd
#2 Global Glamour ($6.50)
Two Group 1 victories over a mile in top company give this filly status. Her resuming run was a disappointment for punters, but she was held up and didn’t get any kind of run. More distance second-up here will suit. All is not lost even from the wide barrier with 10 of the past 16 winners in this race jumping from double-digits. Waterhouse has won it three times and this filly will be in the finish.
