Global Glamour Makes All In Light Fingers Stakes 2017

Global Glamour held-off a fast-finishing Foxplay to record a brave win in a thrilling edition of the 2017 Light Fingers Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Global Glamour was drawn towards the outside of the Light Fingers Stakes and like his brother-in-law Tim Clark in the Magic Millions Guineas, Josh Parr was desperate to take up the running on the daughter of Star Witness.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly did plenty of work to take up the running in the early stages of the Light Fingers Stakes, but she was eventually able to find the lead and she showed a great deal of speed to kick away from her rivals.

Global Glamour opened up a big gap on her rivals at the 200 metre mark, but she was always going to be vulnerable late and Spright, Gridelin and Foxplay all loomed on the outside.

It was Foxplay that finished the best of that trio and she launched herself at the line in the last 100 metres, but Global Glamour was able to hold-on in the concluding stages to claim another black-type victory in the Light Fingers Stakes.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse is yet to reveal the major 2017 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival goal for Global Glamour, but she has a number of different options with the talented filly.

Global Glamour has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 1 and the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) a week later, but races like the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) are also an option for the Thousand Guineas winner.

Foxplay was unable to claim victory in the Light Fingers Stakes, but there was still plenty to like about her performance and she looks in for a big preparation.

Trainer Chris Waller has left his options open with Foxplay and she has been included in the nominations for the Doncaster Mile, Queen Of The Turf Stakes, Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) and Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) as well as the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne.
