The world’s best turf horse Winx is back shooting for her 15th win on the trot, dominating the 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes nominations for this Saturday at Royal Randwick.
First-up on February 13 the Chris Waller-trained daughter of Street Cry equalled Phar Lap with 14 consecutive victories in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m).
She now looks to add to her smart second-up record (6-4-1-0) and continue the fairy tale in the $600,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) this weekend.
Last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival the wonder mare won the Chipping Norton Stakes on the back of a victory in the Apollo and is out to do the same with victory in the Group 1 on Saturday.
Waller has dominated the recent Chipping Norton Stakes results with five wins in the past six years and Winx is out to go back-to-back in the weight-for-age feature emulating the Waller-trained Shoot Out (2012-13).
A total of 13 horses make up the early Chipping Norton Stakes nominations, which have been extended until 11:00am (AEDT) on Tuesday.
Along with the sure to be odds-on favourite in Chipping Norton Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, Waller has also entered for six of Winx’s stablemates including the Apollo Stakes third placegetter Endless Drama.
The classy import has just his third run down under in the Chipping Norton Stakes field on the weekend having run seven lengths behind his star stablemate first-up in the Apollo.
Waller’s other nominees are: Grand Marshal, Libran, Preferment, Sacred Master and Who Shot Thebarman – many heading towards the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) in April during The Championships.
The other key Chipping Norton Stakes contender is perennial placegetter behind Winx, Hartnell, from the Godolphin stable.
A very good galloper in his own right, the John O’Shea-trained Authorized six-year-old would have plenty more wins on the board if he hadn’t come up against a freak on the track.
He faces Winx for a sixth time this weekend having run second to her in the Apollo Stakes first-up and will only improve the further distance he goes this campaign.
Hartnell is set to round-out his autumn in a final showdown with Winx on April 8 in the lucrative $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) where he’ll likely be racing for second at best again.
O’Shea has also nominated for Magic Hurricane coming off a fifth in the Apollo Stakes.
See below for the current Chipping Norton Stakes 2017 nominations, then head to Ladbrokes.com.au to back Winx at the best possible autumn racing odds.
