As the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival nears an end, there is just the one Group status on the Flemington card on the weekend with the $200,000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) attracting a dozen nominations on Monday.

Four of those come from the ace Victorian stables of Darren Weir including the early $2 favourite in pre-field Blamey Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au Black Heart Bart.

The ultra-consistent six-year-old comes off the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes – Futurity Stakes double at Caulfield over 1400m and with winning form up to 1800m shouldn’t have an issue extending out to a mile four runs into his autumn.

Stablemate Tosen Stardom occupies the second line of futures Blamey Stakes odds at $4.50, the Japanese import coming off a narrow second to Black Heart Bart in the Futurity.

Weir however has indicated that the Deep Impact stallion is more likely to take on the champion mare Winx in Sydney on Saturday in the $1 million Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

Black Heart Bart is also nominated for the 2017 George Ryder Stakes on Golden Slipper Stakes Day, with a decision pending on what race he runs in.

Weir’s other Blamey Stakes nominations are the Perth Cup winner Real Love and Palentino.

Real Love was scratched from a run in last Saturday’s Group 1 Australian Cup (2400m), subsequently won by the Weir-trained favourite Humidor.

She has run fifth in her past three starts, the six-year-old daughter of Desert King last seen crossing just over a length off her winning stablemate Stratum Star in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m).

Real Love also holds a Sydney nomination on the weekend in the $700,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) over further distance.

Palentino meanwhile is the $5 all-in third favourite to take out the Blamey Stakes, the four-year-old Teofilo stallion coming off the close sixth when just over two lengths beaten in the Futurity Stakes.

The reigning Blamey Stakes winner He Or She is in the mix again, the Lindsay Park-trained galloper last seen winning a Group 3 over 1400m at the track on March 4.

The stable have a total of three entries as they chase back-to-back wins with He Or She joined by the imported duo of Foundation and Harlem who are both yet to race down under.

Tasmanian raider Hellova Street adds interest to the race also, the Scott Brunton-trained Helike gelding coming off back-to-back stakes wins at home.
