2017 Alister Clark Stakes Night lights up Moonee Valley Racecourse this evening and below are our insider betting tips plus the latest odds on the three-years-old autumn showdown.
Due to jump as Moonee Valley Race 7 at 9:30pm (AEDT), the field for tonight’s $200,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) is down to eleven runners after the early scratching of the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Cliff Hanger (9).
Updated Alister Clark Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are all about Farson who has firmed into $2.35 favouritism after winning his three latest starts.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained son of Snitzel could be Sydney bound after the race eyeing a mile and a half run at Randwick in next month’s Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m).
His latest start at Caulfield on Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes Day produced a tidy win in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) and he now chases the double achieved by Tally twelve months ago.
The other notable Alister Clark Stakes betting market mover is Ruthven ($4.60 into $3.80) drawn gate two and coming off a second over the Pakenham mile carting a hefty 61.5kg.
So will the two top fancies battle it out in the finish under the lights or is there an upset Alister Clark Stakes result pending in 2017 from the likes of last start Randwick Guineas seventh placegetter Hardham ($9.50) or the filly Miss Strathallan ($10)?
1st
#1 Farson ($2.35)
The favourite has done everything right leading up to this and really looks hard to beat even at the firming price. Gets a gun run from the gate (3) and chases his fourth win on the trot. Autumn Classic form lines have held in this race in recent years and the step-up in distance should suit as he tracks towards the Derby in Sydney. Same weight scale he got the job done easily over a similar line-up last time out and don’t think they’ll be able to turn the tables.
2nd
#11 Miss Strathallan ($10)
Nice price offered for this in-form filly from the flying Lindsay Park stables. The daughter of Sebring won over the Pakenham mile by three lengths against the boys two back before the credible fourth in the Autumn Classic. If she handles the step up in metres she can finish in the money again.
3rd
#5 Sunday Pray ($10)
John Moloney-trained son of Manhattan Rain comes off a Cranbourne win under big kilos (59.5kg) by three lengths. Was only a 1500m race so needs to get over the distance on Friday night, but is racing consistently and the winning margin last time has him lined-up for further.
