The female milers face off late at Royal Randwick this Saturday in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes 2017, betting tips and the updated odds on The Championships Day 2 showdown found below.
The penultimate event on a Sydney race card dominated by Winx in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, betting on this season’s $1 million Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (Coolmore Legacy Stakes) is dominated by the ultra-consistent Silent Sedition.
This Caulfield-trained mare from the stables of Andrew Noblet has one of the best possible place rates, 94% after sixteen career starts.
She comes off a string of top two finishes including a second in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in her Sydney debut two back.
Noblet then gave her a freshen-up run in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, which to his surprise she won, and the mare is now back up to mile out to post a second elite level win to see out her stellar autumn prep.
The Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have her at $4.20 to do so, especially as she is well-suited to weight-for-age against the mares.
She needs to hold out the Chris Waller-trained filly Foxplay ($6) who is undefeated at the track and coming off a luckless fourth in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and the Coolmore Classic winner Heavens Above ($8).

1st
#5 Zanbagh ($13)
Going for the value and if the field is in the Heavy ratings, this is the mare to beat. She has the wide barrier 15 draw to overcome explaining her double-digit price. The Emancipation Stakes has produced two of the past three Queen Of The Turf winners and that’s the race this John Thompson-trained daughter of Bernardini won last time out on a Heavy (9). She’s yet to win from seven Randwick starts and no six-year-old has won in the past 30 plus years. Still, she’s good at a mile and if the weather turns bad she is the one to back.
2nd
#1 Silent Sedition ($4.20)
No Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner has come off a non-Sydney lead-up since Typhoon Tracy (2010), and while the lead-up has been unconventional, this mare is the deserving favourite. She is one the most consistent performers stepping up again and again. Coolmore Classic second was very close, William Reid win will have her fit and confident and she’s the danger to become fifth 4YO on the trot to win this race from her good gate seven draw.
3rd
#2 First Seal ($16)
Really like the two Thompson-trained mares and think this former Group 1 winner. She defeated Winx as a three-year-old over this track and distance in the 2014 Flight Stakes and ran sixth in the 2015 edition of this race on the back of seconds in the Coolmore and Vinery. Went on a different path last autumn without success and was disappointing from a nasty gate in this year’s Coolmore (15th). She looked better in a Moonee Valley Group 2 third over the mile behind the filly I Am A Star however and handles a wet track. Plenty to like at the price.
