Godolphin Crown Ideal for Daysee Doom

Trainer Ron Quinton is thrilled with the condition of Daysee Doom and is confident that the in-form mare will take plenty of beating when she lines up for Saturday’s Group 3 Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury.

Initially set for an appearance in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Quinton elected to bypass the race with Daysee Doom; unsure she would handle the distance after being pipped on the line in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at her last start.

Daysee Doom has reportedly taken well to a freshen-up and Quinton believes that the 2017 Godolphin Crown is an ideal next point of call for the four-year-old.

“I was a bit concerned that 1600m at Randwick might (be too far) so we decided to go the other way and give her a freshen,” Quinton told The Daily Telegraph.

“She has come back looking really, really good and I’m very happy with her going into it. It’s no doubt going to be a capacity field and there are no easy ones but it’s a race that probably suits her.

“Both my mares (Dixie Blossoms placed third) should have beat the winner in the Emancipation and they were both a bit stiff on the day.

“Daysee Doom was on speed but (Euro Angel) caused a bit of trouble going around the first turn and she was out three-deep and was there for the rest of the trip and she only got beat a head.

“Taking that form into this race she should run well and she worked beautifully (Tuesday).”

Daysee Doom was a strong and consistent performer for Quinton through 2016 and ended her campaign with consecutive wins in the Alconex Fire BM75 (1400m) and Club Marconi Amartrice BM84 (1200m).

Trialling well in the lead-up to her return this year, the Domesday mare ran third in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) first-up; placing an impressive fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 11th, in what was her only other start prior to the Emancipation Stakes.

The 2017 Godolphin Crown field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
