Peter & Paul Snowden’s smart colt Attention returns to racing in the Gold Coast Guineas 2017 field on A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day this weekend in the sunshine state.

Set to run as the Gold Coast Race 8 at 4:16pm (AEST) a full 16 three-year-olds will face off in this season’s $125,000 Group 3 Mayford Contracting Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) including the first emergency With A Promise who comes in for early scratching Guard Of Honour.

The highest-rated of the Gold Coast Guineas final acceptors is the Snowden’s Sydney-trained son of Stratum Attention who is out to atone for his last start 13^th when five lengths off the winner Hey Doc at Flemington on March 4 in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Attention drops notably in grade this weekend and has trialled twice at Randwick since for two seconds as he chases his first win since the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) as a two-year-old at Doomben last Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Jeff Lloyd has the ride on the youngster this weekend with Attention needing luck after drawing out in barrier 14 (into 13).

Also drawn out wide is Kiwi raider Heroic Valour debuting down under in the race with Opie Bosson over for the ride on the Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards-trained Fastnet Rock colt.

Heroic Valour is unbeaten over the distance back home with a trio of 1200m wins and is sure to appreciate the distance first-up after a number of longer distanced runs of late.

Last time out he ran fourth in the Group 1 NRM Sprint (1400m) on February 11 and he has since trialled nicely at Hawkesbury ahead of his first Australian run on the weekend.

Another highly-rated three-year-old in the mix is the John O’Shea-trained Tessera drawn better in barrier three and coming off a devastatingly close second to Gibraltar Girl at Randwick over 1200m from April 22.

Medaglia D’Oro gelding Tessera was a nose beaten that day first-up and will be fitter for the run, sure to also appreciate the drop back from 61kg to 57kg at set weights on Saturday.

A number of smart fillies are also out to take on the boys in the Gold Coast Guineas line-up including the returning John Meagher-trained Savanna Amour whose last start on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield produced a Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) victory.

Tony Gollan’s Captain Sonador filly Tiyatrolani and River Racer for fellow Brisbane trainer Les Ross are the other top females in the mix having run first and second respectively last time out at Doomben in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1050m).

Other key fancies include proven Gold Coast performer Ringo’s A Rockstar coming off a third in the Mick Dittman and the Team Hawkes-trained Crafty Crop.
