Bjorn Baker’s Stradbroke Handicap second emergency Bonny O’Reilly has drawn out wide for her back-up run in the 2017 Dane Ripper Stakes field at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday.
Last Saturday the in-form O’Reilly mare posted her fifth win on the trot and her seventh from nine career runs with a dominant display in the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m).
Baker opted for that easier assignment over a run in the Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) at the Doomben track, a win in which would have assured the four-year-old of a run in Saturday’s $1.5 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m).
As it stands, Bonny O’Reilly is the second emergency in the Stradbroke Handicap field and unlikely to gain a start leaving her for a 2017 Tattersall’s Tiara lead-up in the $200,000 Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m).
In an early blow for that set weights plus penalties race for the fillies and mares, Bonny O’Reilly drew barrier 16 and will come into 15 of 16 if the sole emergency All Over Bosanova (12) fails to gain a start.
Along with Bonny O’Reilly there are two other acceptors in the Dane Ripper Stakes field coming off a lead-up run with the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion and Tulloch Lodge’s My True Love.
Hugh Bowman is booked to ride Snitzel five-year-old French Emotion who lines-up for the first time since her 1400m VOBIS Gold Distaff win at Caulfield on April 22.
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott meanwhile have a total of three Dane Ripper Stakes hopes this year including the widely-drawn filly My True Love (15) who was last seen winning a 1400m Benchmark 72 over her own age by nearly three lengths at Randwick a fortnight back.
A winner of three of her seven starts to date, My True Love lines-up in Group company for the first time in the Dane Ripper with Damian Lane in the saddle and will enjoy coming back from 60kg to 54kg.
She is joined in the race by stablemates Prompt Response and Miss Debutante drawn well in barriers three and seven respectively.
Beneteau filly Prompt Response has run second in three of her four latest runs going back to early April including her devastatingly close finish behind Daysee Doom on May 13 in Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m).
She enjoyed a subsequent Warwick Farm trial win over 1200m on May 29 and has stellar form over Saturday’s distance with a win and three second from five runs.
Miss Debutante has jockey Corey Brown aboard on the weekend in place of Tommy Berry who rode the Fastnet Rock filly to victory in a Scone black-type two back as well as for her brave fourth at Eagle Farm on May 27 in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1300m).
The best out of the Glenlogan Park Stakes results accepted for a two week back-up in the Dane Ripper this weekend is the Baker-trained runner-up Egyptian Symbol.
She is drawn barrier two with Opie Bosson on standby for the ride, but is likely to scratch out having made the starting line-up in the Stradbroke Handicap with Glyn Schofield to partner the four-year-old daughter of Stratum.
Other key hopefuls include the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Dark Jewel Classic third placegetter Serene Majesty, Glenlogan Park Stakes third placed four-year-old Sold For Song with the outside barrier to overcome and Toby Edmonds’ Real Saga filly Sylpheed coming off a second in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) behind Queensland Guineas favourite Niccanova.
