2017 Dane Ripper Stakes Results: Prompt Response into Tiara

The Tattersall’s Tiara in a fortnight calls for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly Prompt Response who was too strong for the older mares in the Dane Ripper Stakes results for 2017.

A perennial placegetter, the three-year-old daughter of Beneteau jumped second favourite in betting markets on Saturday’s $200,000 Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse.

The young improver came into the Stradbroke Handicap Day race on the back of two Group 3 seconds at Hawkesbury in the Guineas and Scone in the Dark Jewel Classic respectively earlier this season.

Tulloch Lodge brought her on fitness-wise with a winning Warwick Farm trial on May 29 and Prompt Response presented well for the Group 2.

Ridden by Tommy Berry from a gun barrier two draw in the set weights plus penalties clash for fillies and mares, Prompt Response settled in a mid-field position throughout as the field was led around by stablemate My True Love who saluted at Randwick by nearly three lengths carrying 60kg a fortnight ago.

Enjoying the drop back to just 54kg, Fastnet Rock filly My True Love led the Dane Ripper Stakes field around as the Bjorn Baker-trained black-type winner at the track last weekend Bonny O’Reilly moved up into second one off the fence.

My True Love still had front-running around the turn into the straight, while four-year-old Sold For Song began to creep forward from the back of the pack.

The leader gave a little kick, but Prompt Response was finishing very strongly.

She got to the front 200m from the line and held off the challengers for a solid win over the brave My True Love (2nd) and Bonny O’Reilly (3rd), while Sold For Song rounded out the first four in fourth.

The likely next-up winter target is the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) back at Doomben Racecourse this season on June 24.

The Dane Ripper Stakes has produced four Tattersall’s Tiara winners since 2009 including Red Tracer (2013) and Cosmic Endeavour (2014) who both completed the double at Eagle Farm Racecourse, the former prepared by Prompt Response’s co-trainer Waterhouse.
