A 13-horse field is set to face off in Rosehill Race 7 at 3:05pm (AEST) with the $150,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) attracting a number of in-form gallopers including the Chris Waller-trained Sir Bacchus.

Drawn midfield in barrier seven with Glyn Schofield to ride, Sebring four-year-old Sir Bacchus has excellent form at the Rosehill track boasting three wins and a second from five starts.

He is yet to win over further than 1200m, however was devastatingly close when a short half-head second over 1400m at Rosehill on June 3 and gets the chance to go one better this weekend in his first win since last Cox Plate Carnival.

The bookies agree and have Sir Bacchus installed as the firming $3.90 favourite in the Civic Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

A further four hopefuls are under $10 for the win in the latest Civic Stakes betting markets including early mover Gold Symphony ($7.50 into $7).

Hugh Bowman is booked to ride the dual Group 3 winning Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Reward For Effort four-year-old who has a bit of work to do from a double digit draw (10).

Gold Symphony is down notably in class having finished a credible sixth beaten under three lengths in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) in Brisbane on June 10 as a $26 roughie.

He goes up three kilos carrying 56.5kg this weekend, but in a Listed race he is a genuine winning hope.

Shiraz is the next best in betting at $8, Kim Waugh’s veteran seven-year-old one of the genuine Rosehill specialists in the mix.

From eight runs at the course the Zariz gelding boasts four wins and two seconds.

He is drawn a treat in barrier four and comes back to 56.5kg after a brave sixth only a length off the winner Monsieur Gustave under 59kg in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on June 17.

So will the best in betting get the job done or is there an upset Civic Stakes result pending from the likes of the John Thompson-trained last start winner at the track and distance Invincible Knight ($9) or the 59.5kg top weight The Monstar ($11) who scratched out of a race in Queensland to run on a Soft track in this?

Our 2017 Civic Stakes Trifecta Tip is #2 Gold Symphony from #3 Shiraz and #8 Sir Bacchus

1st

#2 Gold Symphony ($7)

Former gun juvenile Gold Symphony looks good value to return to winning form here after the eye-catching Stradbroke run in Brisbane. He faced some of the best of the season in that and was under three lengths off the winner. He is up in weight but right down in grade, has Bowman coming aboard and is never far away.

2nd

#3 Shiraz ($8)

Veteran of the field hasn’t won a race since September of 2015, but caught the eye running a length back sixth at Ipswich a fortnight back with 59kg. Will relish the lighter weight here and loves the Rosehill track (8-4-2-0). Has eased out slightly despite the gun barrier four draw making him the value in this.

3rd

#8 Sir Bacchus ($3.90)

Lots of boxes ticked by the favourite who is weighted to win carrying just 53kg here. Comes off a luckless second over 1400m here on June 3. Is a three time winner from five Rosehill runs so far and, while yet to win over further than 1200m, looks set to peak.
