Gold Symphony and Liapari were both marked at $4.80 on Friday morning at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Winter Challenge and the betting duel is likely to continue right up until start time.

Gold Symphony scored a solid win two starts back in the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on July 1 but was then out of luck from a wide barrier when eleventh to Slightly Sweet in a blanket finish in the Listed $150,000 ATC Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on July 15.

From barrier three in the eleven horse Winter Challenge field, premiership leading jockey Hugh Bowman will be able to find all the breaks to give Gold Symphony every chance to find the winner’s stall again.

The Chris Waller trained Liapari is racing in fine form with two wins from his last three starts and is stepping up in class following his last start win in a 1600m BenchMark 93 Handicap at Warwick Farm on July 8 and will jump from the outside barrier in the eleven horse Winter Challenge field with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said that Gold Symphony has performed well throughout a long campaign that produced a win in the Listed $130,000 Casino Canberra National Sprint (1400m) at Canberra on March 5 and in the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on July 1 two starts back.

Gold Symphony was out of luck last start when eleventh to Slightly Sweet in a blanket finish in the Winter Stakes and Snowden is hoping the four year old has a little bit more luck this week and heads to the spelling paddock a winner.

“He’s had a good prep. He had that early winter through Canberra (in March), had a break then resumed at Scone and went on through to Brisbane,” Snowden told AAP.

“He’s done an extremely good job.”

The Gary Moore trained Classic Uniform is next in the betting at $7.50 just ahead of Shiraz and Sultan Of Swing on $8.50.

The Peter and Paul Snowden Racing Team will also saddle up Snippets Land ($9.50) and Extensible ($11) while the Waller stable will also be represented with $15 chance Elle Lou.
