Eleven fillies will step out in Saturday’s Group 3 Quezette Stakes field at Caulfield Racecourse; a race offering punters terrific value from a betting perspective and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Catchy was one of the best two-year-olds of her generation and is undoubtedly the horse to beat in this 2017 Quezette Stakes field.
Debuting fort a smart win in a 1000m sprint at The Valley on December 9th, Catchy resumed this year for another comfortable win in the Peter Siggins Plate (1100m), before making a successful transition to black type company with a smart win in the Group 2 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude F (1000m).
Flying home to win the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 25th, the Fastnet Rock filly failed to fire in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) last time out on March 18th, but has trialled well in the lead-up to the Quezette Stakes and will relish the conditions of the race.
Tulip is yet to herald much interest in Quezette Stakes betting markets, but she is one of the class horses in this field and represents terrific value at $6 odds.
Debuting for a smart win at The Valley on December 31st, Tulip ran second in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on Australia Day before placing fourth in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes.
Returning to winning form in the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), the Pierro filly finished third in the Golden Slipper after lodging a successful protest on Menari, but had clearly had enough by the time she placed fifth in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) on April 1st.
Tulip is drawn to get an ideal run in transit from barrier 6 and will be partnered by in-form hoop Mark Zahra.
Former Perth filly Seannie will make her east coast debut in the Quezette Stakes and is arguably over the odds at her current $14 quote, or $3.90 to finish in the first three.
Formerly saddled by Simon Miller, the Sebring filly won each of her first starts upon debuting to racing, including the Listed Supremacy Stakes (1000m) on March 4th this year.
Running third in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at Ascot on March 18th, Seannie was last seen finishing a luckless sixth in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) on April 1st, having been completely blocked for a run.
John McArdle’s stable is flying and is well represented in this race by I’ll Have A Bit ($14), while Arctic Angel ($8.50) would not look out of place in the Quezette Stakes winner’s stall.
