Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s dual Group 1 winner Global Glamour is set to race first-up at the Gold Coast next month resuming in the 2018 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Plate.
A gun daughter of Star Witness, the four-year-old bay has an outstanding record fresh enjoying two wins and a third from four previous first-up wins.
The Tulloch Lodge team are hoping to capitalise on that in Queensland on January 13 with Global Glamour targeting the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Plate (1300m).
Winner of the Flight Stakes – Thousand Guineas Group 1 mile double as a filly last year, Global Glamour was last seen finishing three lengths back ninth behind Shoals at Flemington on November 4 in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) in a disappointing Melbourne Cup Carnival run.
That followed a first-up win in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m), while her last run the right-handed way of racing produced a Group 2 second to Derryn in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint in April.
Global Glamour geared up for her summer return at Warwick Farm on Tuesday winning a 759m trial with Brenton Avdulla aboard and co-trainer Both confirmed their Magic Millions Day plans post-hitout.
“We are still weighing up whether she has a run before the Magic Millions or if we just give her another trial and go in to the race fresh,” he told Racing Victoria.
“At this point we are leaning to going in to the race fresh but I still need to have a chat with Gai tonight.
“She was fresh at 1400m when she won the Tristarc Stakes and it is only a little over three weeks until the race so we don’t have a lot of time anyway.”
Global Glamour made an appearance at the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Carnival last summer narrowly beaten home when second to Flying Jess in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
Bookmarkers around the country currently have her installed as the firm favourite in Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Plate betting ahead of the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Hinchinbrook five-year-old Flippant.
Bott & Waterhouse are also likely to have a nice filly in line looking to go one better than Global Glamour in this season’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas in Our Crown Mistress.
“We had her down to trial today as well but have decided that she will trial at Randwick next week before heading up to the Gold Coast,” Bott said on Tuesday.
The three-year-old Star Witness grey has won four of her five starts to date, her only loss a close second on debut at Bendigo back in early September.
Her latest turf triumph was at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) and she is currently listed as the $7 second elect behind Pierata ($4.40) in pre-field 2018 Magic Millions Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
