The newly-renamed Magic Millions 2018 Snippets, formerly the Magic Millions Sprint, has drawn a star-studded field of summer sprinters for Saturday including last start Group 1 winning mare Viddora.
One of the key support acts on the Gold Coast’s $10 million race day this weekend, the $1 million Magic Millions Snippets Sprint (1200m) closes the card as Race 9 at 4:40pm (AEST).
Originally attracting a full field of 16, the early scratching of the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Pretty Fast, who instead runs in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) race earlier in the day, leaves 15 sprint hopefuls.
The latest Magic Millions Sprint odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Adelaide raider Viddora as the red hot $2.60 favourite.
Drawn a treat in barrier four with her regular rider Joe Bowditch continuing associations, the ultra-consistent I Am Invincible five-year-old has her first start since winning the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in Perth on December 2.
Viddora is a genuine Group 1 sprinter and even with a hefty 59kg weight allocation for the weekend, shapes-up as the horse to beat as she looks to go one better than her second to Target In Sight in last year’s Magic Millions Sprint results.
Three other runners sit under $10 in the Magic Millions Snippets odds this season including the $6 second elect Global Glamour who is also accepted for the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares field.
A dual Group 1 winning daughter of Star Witness, the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained four-year-old has her first run since crossing under three lengths back ninth to Shoals at Flemington in November’s Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).
Global Glamour has subsequent enjoyed back-to-back Sydney trial wins, the latest at Randwick over 1045m by a runaway four lengths.
She also previous form at the Gold Coast track having placed second in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas here as a filly last summer, but is drawn wide (13) and is allocated the equal 59.5kg top weight under set weights plus penalties.
Occupying the third line of Magic Millions Sprint betting at $6.50 is last start Rosehill winner Egyptian Symbol.
Bjorn Baker prepares the five-year-old Stratum mare who, like Global Glamour, has had two successful Sydney trials leading-up to her Magic Millions Race Day bid.
Egyptian Symbol has raced at the Gold Coast three times to date for two thirds and was only two lengths beaten when sixth to Private Secretary in last summer’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares, which she is also accepted for this weekend.
Rounding out the single-figure fancies is the early Magic Millions Sprint market mover Dothraki ($8 into $7.50), the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Mossman seven-year-old last seen running second to Music Magnate in Randwick’s Listed Christmas Classic (1200m).
Dothraki is something of a Gold Coast specialist having enjoyed two wins from three starts at the Queensland track, his only loss here being the close fourth in this race last year.
