It is a wide open edition of the 2018 Breeders Classic at Warwick Farm Racecourse on Saturday, our betting tips and the latest odds on the mares’ only clash found below.
Only nine runners are engaged to do battle in Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEDT) for this year’s Group 2 $200,000 Breeders Classic (1200m) and the bookies are having a hard time separating the best in betting.
Six of the hopefuls are under $10 in the latest Breeders Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au including the narrow $3.50 favourite Egyptian Symbol from the local stables of Bjorn Baker.
Last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival Egyptian Symbol was runner-up in the Breeders Classic, run at Randwick, and 12 months on she is the tip to go one better and salute third-up from gate six with Jason Collett in the saddle.
She was impressive resuming with a win in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) in the mud at Rosehill in early December before her third to Viddora in the Magic Millions Sprint (1200m).
Kept fresh again and presents as a winning hope for the punters in her first official run at her home Warwick Farm track.
The Breeders Classic market mover who is now challenging Egyptian Symbol for favouritism is Bonny O’Reilly ($4.40 into $4.80), another Baker-trained mare.
It has been 17 weeks between runs for the five-year-old daughter of O’Reilly who has outstanding form at 1200m with four wins from six starts over the distance she resumes over on Saturday.
So will the two Baker stablemates fight it out for the win or is there better value in Breeders Classic betting this season backing the likes of Group 1 performing four-year-old Prompt Response ($5), last Saturday’s Expressway Stakes last placed Time Thief mare Memes ($8) on the quick back-up or even her stablemate Slightly Sweet ($16) resuming with the Coolmore Classic in sight?

#2 Egyptian Symbol ($3.50)
Hard to go past the deserving favourite who looks set to return to winning form here. Has been freshened-up, but still has a fitness edge over those resuming. Very impressive in the Starlight Stakes on a Heavy (8) and was just outclassed in the Magic Millions Sprint. This is her pet distance (10:3-3-2) and the second in the race last year was good. Local to the track, this is an easier assignment and she can salute for the punters.
2nd
#6 Memes ($8)
Happy to forgive and forget last Saturday’s Expressway Stakes disaster where Jason Coyle’s smart mare had a saddle slip disrupt her run. Before that she saluted in the Summer Sprint at Randwick, beating Boss Lane. Better over shorter, but has good 1200m form too (8:1-3-1). Fit and firing, ready to atone on the quick turnaround and in a nine-horse field the outside barrier isn’t too much of a concern.
3rd
#8 Tswalu ($26)
Blowout in the race, this roughie-priced David Pfieffer-trained local daughter of Northern Meteor looks overs. She saluted at the track / distance carrying 58.5kg on January 26 and gets the chance to prove herself in tougher company here. Drops right back to 54kg in this field, has dual Melbourne Cup winning hoop Corey Brown aboard in a gun gate four draw and has definite place claims.
