Golden Slipper Day 2018 Best Bets: Winx Wins by How Many Lengths?

2018 Golden Slipper Day takes place in Sydney this afternoon and below are the insider Races.com.au team’s Rosehill Best Bets including the Winx winning margin tip for her shot at win No. 24 on the trot in Race 5.

It is a huge day of autumn racing for Slipper Day 2018 with no less than five Group 1 races on the program and the latest run by the world’s best horse on turf Winx.

Winx runs in the Group 1 $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m) today dually defending her title and looking to make history with a world record 17th Group 1 win on the flat.

But, how many lengths will Winx win by?

There’s also the season’s top two-year-olds running in the official headline race – the 2018 Golden Slipper Stakes (Race 7) – plus three other features to sink your teeth into across the afternoon.

Outside of the short Winx odds there is plenty of value to be had at Rosehill today especially with the Heavy track rating so check out our Golden Slipper Day Best Bets before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au.

Winx Winning Margin (Race 5) – 2018 George Ryder Stakes

7 or more Lengths

Winx wins the George Ryder Stakes, again. There is nothing in this race that will beat her and she ticks every box. Handles mud tracks, thrives at her home Rosehill course, was a seven length winner first-up over the mile and is a champion. The list of reasons why Winx is the horse to beat goes on forever but there could be a bit of value tipping her winning margin. She won first-up by seven lengths and Hugh Bowman believes she will be even better here. She saluted by over seven lengths on a Heavy (10) in this race 12 months ago and word from the jockey is she can emulate that. Load up.

In The Big One (Race 7) – 2018 Golden Slipper Stakes

#1 Written By ($5.50)

The Golden Slipper odds on Grahame Begg’s Blue Diamond winner Written By are on the drift and that’s attractive. He won three from three in Melbourne including the Group 1 before heading to Sydney and leading all-the-way last weekend to record a slick Pago Pago Stakes win. It’s a double that hasn’t been done by Stratum (2005) on the quick back-up, but plenty suggests he’ll thrive on the short turnaround and from the barrier (4) this undefeated colt could be hard to hold out from the front on Heavy going that his is proven over.

Better Than Bank Interest (Race 4) – 2018 Ranvet Stakes

#1 Gailo Chop ($2.10)

In the day’s opening Group 1 race there is money flying in form the rails-drawn mare #8 Single Gaze, but that means the previous odds-on quote for Gailo Chop has gone out to over $2. He is our better than bank interest tip of the day (along with Winx of course) and can atone for his last start loss in the Australian Cup. Needs to prove himself the Sydney way, but the wet track plays to his advantage and he is the class horse in the race from the flying Weir stable.

Best Roughie To Place (Race 6) – 2018 Rosehill Guineas

#14 Main Stage ($19)

There’s value galore in a wide open edition of the Rosehill Guineas this afternoon including our tip to win, NZ Derby winner #2 Vin De Dance ($7) and the next best at a blowout price Main Stage. This three-year-old was admittedly disappointing when 10th in the Australian Guineas over the Flemington mile last time out, but can atone on a rain-affected track third-up.
