The feature race for juveniles at Royal Randwick on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ this Saturday is the 2018 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes, betting tips and updated odds on the set weights clash detailed below.
In the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au on Race 6 there are four single-figure hopefuls looking for an elite level win in the Group 1 $1 million Inglis Sires’ (1400m).
Tony McEvoy’s very rich maiden filly Oohood has won over $800,00 in prize money during her first starts to date and is after her first win heading to Randwick on the back of a Golden Slipper Stakes second.
She is the market mover and has the gun form lines heading into this and stepping-up to 1400m looks likely to shrug her maiden status.
Looking at the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds, the danger is the rails-drawn Seabrook prepared by Mick Price who won the Sweet Embrace two back before her Golden Slipper fifth from a wide barrier.
Earlier in the week we published our comprehensive ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2018 Form Guide & Betting Preview, our insider tips below based on the facts and stats uncovered.
1st
#4 Spin ($17)
Going for a blowout result and tipping a different maiden to breakthrough here with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Spin having been knocking on the door for a while now. He’d be the longest-priced winner of this race since Yosei ($17 in 2010) but comes from the right stable. Co-trainer Peter Snowden boasts four ATC Sires’ wins in total, two in partnership with his son Paul including last year with Invader. Spin has finished first four in all five career runs, including a Group 3 over this distance last weekend when Tim Clark dropped the whip at the 300m. He’s on the quick back-up but is fit and should handle the 1400m better than a few, especially with the blinkers back on. Well-weighted, good midfield draw and steps-up to Group 1 company for the first time so brings in a different form line that could stack-up.
2nd
#13 Oohood ($3.60)
$800,000 earner without winning a race? Quite a feat! She was third in the Blue Diamond and then came to Sydney for the first time for the Golden Slipper second. Zac Purton in the saddle again. He is after a third win in the race, the latest on Yankee Rose (2016) who also beat home the boys off a Slipper second. Three of the past six winners came out of the Golden Slipper and her run in that was excellent, including the fastest final furlong (200m) of anything in the race. She should eat-up 1400m to boot.
3rd
#7 Tchaikovsky ($9)
Another runner for last year’s winning stable, this Redoute’s Choice colt comes off a lead-up win at Gosford over 1200m. The 1400m will suit this lightly-raced and untapped bay who earlier ran third in Randwick’s Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m). Being kept pretty safe in betting, has the upside and can finish in the money.
