One of the key support acts on Day 2 of ‘The Championships’ outside the four Group 1 Randwick races taking place this Saturday is the Percy Sykes Stakes 2018, betting led by the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Pure Elation.
There are 11 remaining two-year-old fillies in the field for this year’s Group 2 $600,000 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) after the early withdrawal of Fish ‘N’ Snitz and Bold Arial.
The latest Percy Sykes Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au feature and open market with six single-figure hopefuls led by the firming favourite Pure Elation.
After opening at $5 to post back-to-back wins, the in-form daughter of gun sire I Am Invincible has come into $3.90 to salute from gate three with Michael Walker in the saddle.
She comes off a two length lead-up win over 1100m at Warwick Farm from March 28 and has form around the Golden Slipper winner Estijaab.
Two back Pure Elation crossed a quarter length second to Estijaab in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, form that was franked with the winner going on to take out the world’s richest race for two-year-olds next-up.
Occupying the second line of Percy Sykes Stakes betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at $5 is Fiesta drawn a treat in gate two for jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
A stablemate of Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes favourite Winx, the Chris Waller-trained bay is also a daughter of I Am Invincible and is down in grade after a seventh when just over three lengths beaten in the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on March 24.
She has trialled in the meantime, the Widden Stakes winner running second over 900m at Rosehill on April 6 ahead of the Percy Sykes Stakes.
Waller is also represented in the Percy Sykes Stakes field this year by Zoustar filly Madam Rouge who is a $15 shot out wide in barrier 13 (into 11) with Craig Williams coming aboard the last start Warwick Farm winner.
Shorter priced fancies in the mix include the lightly-raced Godolphin representatives Cristobal ($7) and Gongs ($8) drawn well in barriers four and five respectively.
Exceed And Excel filly Cristobal won her debut at Rosehill over 1100m in late February before a second to Sunlight in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 17 and races for the first time since.
Gongs meanwhile is also James Cummings-trained, the daughter of Dawn Approach last seen running fourth to Estijaab when under a length beaten in the Reisling Stakes.
Other notable Percy Sykes Stakes fillies this year include Reisling Stakes third placegetter Sister Sledge ($8.50), the rails-drawn Tony Gollan-trained Magic Millions Classic placed Outback Barbie ($9.50) from Queensland and Setsuna ($12) for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.
