Tradesman among 2018 Caloundra Cup nominations

The Darren Weir trained Tradesman is among the twenty nominations for the 2018 Listed $175,000 Scott McMahon Electrical Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Tradesman could be backing up for the third week in a row if Weir gives the go for a Caloundra Cup start ahead after winning the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich on June 16 and then running second to the well supported Divine Unicorn in the Group 3 $200,000 Lazy Yak Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben last Saturday.

Also among the Caloundra Cup nominations is the Chris Munce trained First Crush who found his best form stepping back up to a middle distance when beaten a lip last start by Tradesman in the Ipswich Cup which was his best recent run.

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has two nominations for the Caloundra Cup with My Giuliano and Tumultuous.

Both stayers are struggling to find form with their most recent efforts seeing them finish ninth, My Giuliano, and tenth, Tumultuous, in the Ipswich Cup.

Trainer Kris Lees has nominated his veteran stayer Doukhan who is coming off a last start second in the $100,000 Stayer’s Cup (3200m) at Randwick on June 9.

The Kiwi contingent is led by the Nigel Tiley trained Megablast who performed creditably at his first run at the Sunshine Coast with a last start third behind Egg Tart and Tradesman in the Group 2 $200,000 Bradford Access Insulation P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m) on June 2.

Also from the Shaky Isles is the Tony Pike trained Sacred Master who is coming off a last start ninth to Divine Unicorn in the Tattersall’s Cup.
