Tea Rose Stakes quinella Miss Fabulass and Fiesta are set to clash again in the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Kris Lees trained Miss Fabulass proved too strong for Chris Waller’s Fiesta in the Group 2 $200,000 Darley Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on September 15 while third placegetter Pretty In Pink is also lining up in the Flight Stakes.
All three fillies have drawn nice barriers in the eleven horse Flight Stakes field with Miss Fabulas to jump from gate three with Kerrin McEvoy ion the saddle again, Fiesta will leave from gate six with Hugh Bowman on top and Pretty In Pink has drawn in between them at barrier five with Tye Angland in charge of the reins.
McEvoy is very happy with barrier three and can see Miss Fabulass getting the run of the race and every chance to collect her first Group 1 trophy.
“She is just going to put herself in the right spot from the gate and she has a great turn of foot, as we saw in the Tea Rose,” McEvoy told the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Tony McEvoy trained Oohood is set to lead the Flight Stakes field out but the I Am Invincible filly is still looking for her first visit to the winner’s stall even though she has earned over $1 million in prizemoney thanks to her three Group 1 placings during her two year old season.
Oohood finished third in the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield during the 2018 Melbourne Autumn Carnival and then was runner up twice during the Sydney Autumn Carnival in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill and in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick.
Tim Clark will stick with Oohood who has drawn awkwardly at barrier eleven while Luke Currie will partner Tony McEvoy’s second runner Aristocratic Miss who will jump from gate two.
Queensland filly Baccarat Baby is the winner of her last five starts at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast and has drawn barrier eight with her usual partner Micheal Hellyer in the saddle.
Miss Fabulass is the prominent favourite for the Flight Stakes at $2.05 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Pretty In Pink at $6.50 and Fiesta at $8.
