Cosmic Force new favourite for 2019 Golden Slipper after barrier draw

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Cosmic Force is the new favourite after the barrier draw for the 2019 Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Cosmic Force drew barrier two in the capacity sixteen horse field plus three emergencies and was promoted to be the $5 favourite for the Golden Slipper at Ladbrokes.com.au

The Chris Waller trained Yes Yes Yes lost his spot at the top of the market order after drawing a horror gate and will jump from the extreme outside barrier and is on the fourth line of betting at $7.50.

The Godolphin owned pair of Tenley (barrier 6) at $5.50 and Microphone (barrier 1) at $6 make up the top four in the betting.

Cosmic Force is one of three runners for the Snowden Team who will also saddle up Anaheed from barrier seven and Catch Me from barrier twelve and also have the second emergency Rome who drew barrier four.

Melbourne based jockey Mark Zahra has picked up the plumb ride on Cosmic Force replacing James McDonald who was aboard the Deep Field colt when he annihilated the rest of the field in winning the Group 3 $175,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill last Saturday.

McDonald had already been booked to ride the James Cummings trained filly Tenley who he rode to victory in the Group 2 $300,000 Astus Australia Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 9.

Tim Clark finds himself back aboard Anaheed who is marked at $26 while $51 outsider Catch Me with Corey Brown in the saddle will race with the blinkers off in the Golden Slipper.

The Rosehill track is rated a heavy 9 on Tuesday morning and with more rain forecast for Sydney for the rest of the week, co-trainer Peter Snowden’s smile is widening after Cosmic Force skimmed through a very heavy track in recording a seven and a quarter lengths win in the Pago Pago last Saturday.

“The fact that he handled the wet conditions was such a big plus. It is definitely going to be wet on Saturday and it will suit some horses, not all horses,” Peter Snowden said.

Cosmic Force’s stablemate Anaheed is also a winner in on a wet track while all of Catch Me’s four starts have been on a good surface.

Snowden said that Cosmic Force has pulled up very well after his Pago Pago win and the colt is showing all the positive signs going into the Golden Slipper.

“This close to the race you need a horse that has really shown you improvement. The keenness and willingness in their work and the feed bin and a good attitude that keeps getting better,” Snowden said.

“As you know two year olds can come up quickly and go off even quicker.”

“So you need to have the right horse going the right way and this bloke has been doing that the last three weeks. He has continued to improve. He has always had a good attitude but with a bit of racing he is starting to learn a bit about his craft.”

“He is learning how to race, learning how to breathe and do things properly and it showed on Saturday what he is starting to come to hand with.”
