Golden Rose Favourite Bivouac Faces 6 Rivals in San Domenico Field

Hot favourite to take out next month’s $1 million Golden Rose, the Godolphin-raced Bivouac will face just six rivals second-up in Saturday’s 2019 San Domenico Stakes field at Rosehill Gardens.

It is a small but top-class field of seven three-year-olds engaged in this season’s Group 3 $160,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) in Sydney with the line-up led by the flying James Cummings-trained Bivouac.

The in-form Exceed And Excel colt took his record to three wins from six starts at Caulfield first-up with his barnstorming 4.25 length victory in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m).

It was a hugely impressive effort from the autumn’s Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes winner who should be flying home over the same distance again at Rosehill on Saturday.

Hugh Bowman retains the ride on the gun youngster who heads towards the 2019 Golden Rose over 1400m on September 28.

Bivouac is the early $6.50 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au in pre-field Golden Rose betting and is odds-on at a very short $1.65 quote in the San Domenico Stakes markets for the weekend.

There are two other single-figure hopefuls in the San Domenico Stakes odds for 2019 with Yes Yes Yes ($4) and the rails-drawn Exceedance ($5) considered the main dangers.

The $7 second elect to win next month’s Golden Rose Stakes, premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller prepares Rubick colt Yes Yes Yes who has won three of his five career starts to date.

His biggest victory was in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) last March before his credible mid-field finish when seventh in Rosehill’s Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m).

A Heavy (8) track hampered his chances of Slipper success and first-up over 1100m on firmer ground has James McDonald’s mount boasting genuine Each Way claims.

Exceedance is Team Hawkes-trained and also runs fresh in the San Domenico Stakes field on Saturday, the son of Exceed And Excel racing in Black-Type company for the first time.

Group 2 winning Victorian visitor Dubious ($15) looking to improve on his Vain Stakes fourth, the Team Snowden-trained filly Anaheed ($12) who is a dual Group 2 winner but flat first-up when ninth in Rosehill’s Listed The Rosebud look the best of the rest.

The 2019 San Domenico Stakes runs as Race 5 at 2:30pm (AEST) at Rosehill on Saturday.
