Anthony Cummings Has Golden Eagle Plans for Golden Pendant Winner Mizzy

The Anthony Cummings-trained Mizzy made it three-from-three this prep winning the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Punters once again forgot the talented four-year-old, who jumped at $6.00 in the seven-horse field

Mizzy, winner of last fortnight’s Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m), led from Fundamentalist early in the race and didn’t run out of steam despite a strong challenge from Champagne Cuddles late.

Jockey Tommy Berry proved the difference after riding Standout to victory two races prior. After the race, Berry credited the horse’s management and cool demeanor up on the speed.

“The market keeps forgetting about her, and I’m sure they won’t next time,” Berry said.

“As I said she’s come back a lot better this preparation and managed a lot better. She’s been able to control the race from up front and that’s told the tale in the end.”

Saturday marked Mizzy’s third attempt over the 1400m after running fourth in the Group 1 Surround Stakes back in March.

The plan ahead remains a little unclear, but Cummings has his eyes on the $7.5 million Group 1 Golden Eagle on November 2 or perhaps more optimistically, The Everest.

“Today a slightly longer trip and she was more dynamic in the finish, really was the best horse in the race I’d say,” Cummings said.

“From here looking at the programs it’s going to be the Golden Eagle, but if someone wants to talk about The Everest we’re all ears, that’d be a bit of fun.”

Mizzy remains at long odds for both feature races with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Champagne Cuddles ran on well for second after sitting fourth on Saturday, while there was no such luck for Invincibella who ran fourth.
