The weather in Sydney for Slipper Day is for a mostly fine morning with the chance of light showers developing in the afternoon meaning the current Soft (6) Rosehill track rating looks likely to remain in play.
Rosehill racing kicks off at 12:30pm (AEDT) and the bumper nine-race card continues through until 5:45pm (AEDT).
There are five Group 1 races across the program starting with the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) as Race 4.
The 2020 Ranvet Stakes field features seven runners following the scratching of Canberra Cup winner Mugatoo.
Mugatoo instead jumps favourite in the Group 3 NE Manion Cup earlier in the day over 2400m eyeing a Sydney Cup target next month.
Next-up all nine original acceptors for the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) are still in the mix.
Jamie Richards’ star Kiwi Te Akau Shark ($1.95 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) is the favourite out to emulate four-time winner Winx by completing the Chipping Norton – George Ryder double.
Thirteen potential ATC Derby-bound three-year-olds face off in Race 6 with no scratchings out of the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) field.
2020 Rosehill Guineas betting markets are dominated by the Randwick Guineas winner Shadow Hero at $2.80.
The meeting’s namesake race and the one everyone is waiting for is of course the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) running as Race 7 at 4:30pm.
A full field of 16 two-year-olds run in the Golden Slipper Stakes including the first two emergencies – Rathlin and Minhaaj – who come in for the scratched duo of Global Quest and Cellsabeel.
Updated Golden Slipper odds have trainer Gai Waterhouse in line for a record seventh win with the Tulloch Lodge-trained Silver Slipper – Todman Stakes winning colt Farnan at $4.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Rounding out the elite level racing action post-Slipper is then the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).
The withdrawal of the James Cummings-trained Kementari – who is being saved for Saturday week’s Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) – sees the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Deep Field colt Cosmic Force gain a run as the $4.40 favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au.
