The punters came late for Mick Bell’s veteran mudlark Jungle Edge in the Group 3 $128,000 Neds Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday and the rising 10-year-old didn’t disappoint celebrating yet another wet track win in the feature.

Having his 82nd career start, the popular Dubawi gelding again proved to be the horse that just keeps on giving jumping as the sort-priced favourite in the 2020 Sir John Monash Stakes run on a recently downgraded Heavy (8) track.

The wet-track warhorse had conditions to suit and relished the going, Jungle Edge going on to celebrate win number 19 and take his earnings up over $1.7 million.

Jockey Jade Darose also made history in the Sir John Monash Stakes results as the first female rider to win the event this century.

Darose had Jungle Edge settled in the perfect position second to the pacemaker Tavisan throughout, taking him up the middle of the track once on the straight to get to the front.

The horse was full bore at the 200m, Viridine ($3.10) on his back and chasing, but nothing was catching the gun old galloper who charged home for a three-quarter length win over James Cummings’ last-start Winter Dash winner.

There was a gap back to third with the Paul Preusker-trained I Am Someone ($8.50) finishing two and a quarter-lengths back to round out the Sir John Monash Stakes trifecta.
