The Tristarc Stakes 2020 closes the Caulfield Cup Day card in Melbourne on Saturday and is shaping up as a scintillating clash and potential nightmare race for punters with over half the field under $10 to win.
Set to run as Caulfield Race 10 at 5:50pm (AEDT), this year’s Group 2 $300,000 Schweppes Tristarc Stakes (1400m) features a small but quality line-up of nine potentially Empire Rose Stakes-bound mares.
Current favourite in the Tristarc Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Dean Binaisse-trained Felicia ($3.90) drawn in gate seven with Craig Williams to ride.
The ultra-consistent Unencumbered four-year-old has run out of the money just once in her 10 career starts and has been in excellent form this prep.
Two back she won the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) before her second to Fiesta in the Group3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) a week ago.
She’s on the quick back-up and presents fit and ready to fire in a winnable race.
Hot on her heels at Tristarc Stakes odds of $4 is the Grant & Alana Williams-trained Perfect Jewel ($4) to be ridden by the flying Perth hoop William Pike from gate three.
The stable enjoyed a Group 1 win with Arcadia Queen scoring the upset in the Caulfield Stakes last weekend, one of two elite level victories and four in total on Guineas Day for Pike.
Perfect Jewel hasn’t won since her first-up success in the Cockram Stakes (1200m) here in late August, but drops in grade after some tough lead-up runs including her midfield sixth in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, and can improve back at Caulfield.
The early Tristarc Stakes market mover at $4.40 is Pretty Brazen carrying the 58kg top weight in the form of Luke Currie from gate eight for Tony & Calvin McEvoy.
The quality Brazen Beau four-year-old has a good 1400m record (7:2-2-1) including her Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes win when defeating subsequent Caulfield Stakes champ Arcadia Queen at HQ last month.
She then ran third behind The Everest hopeful Behemoth in a tight finish at Caulfield a week later in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) before her seventh in the Blazer Stakes, the form of which the bookies are tipping to stand up in the Tristarc.
In a really tough race to predict the other single-figure fancies are the Chris Waller-trained Stradbroke runner-up Madam Rouge ($5.50) coming off a fourth in the Blazer and the second placegetter out of the same lead-up She Shao Fly ($7) to be ridden by Jamie Kah.
