The short-priced favourite Inspirational Girl has work to do on Saturday from a wide alley drawing barrier 18 for the 2020 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot Racecourse.
A capacity field of summer gallopers will line-up in this year’s Group 1 $1 million Kingston Town Classic (1800m) including the Grant & Alana Williams-trained Inspirational Girl who comes off a win in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).
It’s been over a decade since Sniper’s Bullet (2009) did the Railway – Kingston Town double that Inspirational Girl is currently paying $2.20 through Ladbrokes.com.au to complete.
The five-year-old daughter of Reliable Man has a brilliant strike-rate at the Ascot track with five wins and a second from six starts at Perth’s premier course after her lead-up victory in the Railway.
She was very good that day saluting by nearly two lengths, but has a tougher assignment here going up from 53kg to 57kg at weight-for-age.
Perth’s premier hoop William Pike retains the ride and can do no wrong this season, but both he and the mare will need to be very good from the wide alley with Inspirational Girl to jump from 15 with emergencies out.
Following the Kingston Town Classic barrier draw the market mover into $7.50 second favouritism is Dom To Shoot drawn gate seven and carrying 52kg in the form of Peter Knuckey.
The Sean & Jake Casey-trained Shooting To Win three-year-old is yet to win over further than 1200m, but was eye-catching running third in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) here on November 21 only a length beaten and comes down in weight.
Also under $10 for the win at $9.50 is the eye-catching Railway Stakes runner-up Too Close The Sun who looks like he will appreciate the extra 200m in Saturday’s rematch.
Winner of the Teran Cup – Warrnambool Cup double over the autumn, Lindsey Smith’s son of Carlton House has been ultra-consistent this campaign with his seconds in the Asian Beau Stakes and Railway Stakes behind Inspirational Girl coming either side of his Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) win.
He took out that event over the same track and distance as the Kingston Town by over four lengths carrying 57.5kg to victory, so should be able to handle himself at WFA here.
Following closely at $10 are then the in-form filly Watch Me Dance coming off wins in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes and WA Guineas, and the reigning champion Kay Cee whose sire Playing God (2010-11) was the last back-to-back Kingston Town Classic winner.
