Emulating Helmet from 2011 for the stable, Street Boss colt Anamoe enjoyed a Group 1 win as a juvenile in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes before returning to take out the Group 1 $2 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) as a three-year-old in the spring.

After winning the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) fresh, Anamoe was narrowly denied an earlier Group 1 success when runner-up to In The Congo in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 25.

For the sixth time in nine years, the Sydney form line held-up in the Caulfield Guineas with the horse traveling south fit third-up and excellent extending out to a mile to score victory.

“He’s just such a wonderful animal, such a rare animal,” Godolphin representative Sean Keogh told Racing Victoria after the win.

“He’s returned that (juvenile form) to the highest level as a three-year-old colt. It is just unbelievable.

“This was certainly a Grand Final target.

“He always seemed in the mould of a horse that would relish a mile and had a classic type about him.

“A lot went into it. And to produce him on the day with an effort like that was outstanding form the team.

“We always just had faith in the talent and the quality of the horse.”

Jockey Damien Oliver came aboard in place of James McDonald in Melbourne and celebrated his second Caulfield Guineas victory 31 years after his first.

Oliver gave Anamoe a perfectly-timed ride, getting the eventual winner into a lovely position midfield three-wide with cover where the horse was always going to be hard to beat.

The Blue Diamond winner Artorius meanwhile missed the kick and found himself well back in the run as Alpine Edge led the field around.

There was a line of three across at the 500m as they increased the pressure turning for home, Anamoe tracking into in around the bend five deep.

Also running on very well once on the straight was the eye-catching Captivant, Peter & Paul Snowden’s Capitalist colt best known for his Group 1 Champagne Stakes win over the Randwick mile in April.

Anamoe moved up boldly to hit the front with Captivant coming with him and they went stride for stride the final 100m before the favourite proved too strong winning the Guineas in style.

Flashing home late right from the back in an equally impressive performance was the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Artorius losing few admirers in rounding out the Caulfield Guineas trifecta after getting onto the back of Anamoe and presenting well the closing stages.

Anamoe could potentially remain in Melbourne for a shot at the Group 1 $5 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at weight-for-age at The Valley on October 23.

All-in 2021 Cox Plate betting at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au on Anamoe has firmed from $12 into $8 with Artorius also moving in from $21 to $11 – full markets available here.
