Peter & Paul Snowden are into the Group 1 $1.5 million Neds Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in a fortnight with a livewire chance following an exciting maiden success from nicely-bred filly Revolutionary Miss in Saturday’s 2022 Blue Diamond Prelude (F).
The daughter of Russian Revolution had had two nice runs in Sydney leading-up to her Melbourne debut in the Group 2 $300,000 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for fillies on C.F. Orr Stakes Day at Caulfield.
She had placed second in her two previous starts, the latest a solid effort behind Queen Of The Ball at Rosehill in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m).
In a master placement from the stable, she franked the Sydney form at Caulfield getting over the top of her rivals late and putting her hand up for a run in the 2022 Blue Diamond Stakes back at the track against the colts and geldings.
Ridden to victory by Michael Dee, Revolutionary Miss produced a very good performance winning in a time about a tenth of a second quicker than new Blue Diamond favourite Lofty Strike in the boys’ Prelude one race earlier.
Everything panned out well in the run for the eventual Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner as she travelled nicely throughout before finishing off well.
Powering to the line late, Revolutionary Miss ($11) went on to defeat Peter Gelagotis’ Blue Diamond Preview winner Miss Roseiano ($4.80EF) by three-quarters of a length as the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained leader English Riviera ($7) held for third.
The placegetters did well to hold on off their on-speed runs, but all credit went to Revolutionary Miss who is now out to complete the Blue Diamond Prelude (F) – Blue Diamond Stakes double for the first time since Samaready (2012).
Co-trainer Peter Snowden celebrated his third Prelude victory following on from those with Guelph (2013) and Earthquake (2014), the latter also going on to take out the Group 1 Blue Diamond at her next start that autumn.
“She’s one that just keeps thriving, she’s eating more just keep getting strong,” Snowden told Racing.com after the victory.
“She still wants a lot further (in distance) yet, so to me that’s a great result today.
“She’s been in work for quite a while, the (Golden) Slipper’s still another four or five weeks away.
“This was a better pathway in and a Diamond is such a tremendous race if you can get there.
“Today she had to win like that to earn a crack at that race.
“She’s there now, it’s a matter of cuddling her, keeping her happy and eating well and stay in the shape she’s in now and we’ll be right.”
