Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young celebrated another Australian Group 1 success with a Japanese-bred runner as their smart filly Glint Of Hope scored a narrow upset in the 2022 Australasian Oaks results at Morphettville.
Following on from their 2020 Blue Diamond victory with Lord Kanaloa colt Tagaloa, the now Cranbourne-based Kiwi duo posted another elite level victory for Japanese connections in the Group 1 $502,250 Australasian Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide.
“Amazing really,” co-trainer Young told Racing.com post-win.
“She’s obviously a Deep Impact filly so she’s worth a great deal in residual value winning a Group 1 Oaks.
“I think she was a $100,000 purchase. It’s unbelievable to win another Group 1 with a Japanese-bred.”
The beautifully-bred Deep Impact filly presented as a double-figure chance in betting, stepping-up in grade off a string of good autumn runs in Victoria against easier company.
She came off a devastatingly close third over the Caulfield mile in a three-years-old handicap to hold off the brave Jerome Hunter-trained Group 1 Thousand Guineas third place-getter from the spring ($10) Barb Raider and salute by a head in the Australasian Oaks fourth-up.
Jockey Daniel Moor followed the stable’s instructions and got on the back of the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Auraria Stakes winner My Whisper ($2.70F), following the Jamie Kah-ridden favourite throughout.
“We gave Daniel Moor his first Group 1 winner and I’m so glad he’s back,” Young said.
“He rode her an absolute treat. He got onto the back of Jamie Kah aboard My Whisper and those were the only real instructions.
“She had a perfect ride.”
Getting that lovely trail into the race, Moor had to pop out a little earlier than anticipated charging up to hit the lead at the 300m.
Glint Of Hope was rock-hard fit however and had the class to sustain her run, defeating the gallant Barb Raider who had run on speed second the entire trip.
“Great team,” Moor said.
“Trent and Nat have been great supporters of mine.
“To repay them in a race that probably means a lot for the owners as well as the stable is really satisfying.
“I just wanted to follow Jamie (Kah) everywhere…I knew she was on the horse (My Whisper) that’d drag us into the race if we needed.
“We had to push the button a little earlier…but she was strong enough through the line.”
The beaten top fancy My Whisper lost few admirers finishing only a half-length back third off her lovely run fourth the fence to complete the Australasian Oaks trifecta.
