2022 Doomben 10,000 Day: Eagle Farm Scratchings & Track Report

** UPDATE: Track downgraded to (Heavy 8) following Race 6 **

The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival gets into full swing today, Saturday May 14, with Doomben 10,000 Day 2022 taking place at sister track Eagle Farm, and below we have the latest scratchings and track report ahead of the first.

The Doomben 10,000 Day meeting was given the green light to switch to Eagle Farm from Doomben earlier in the week with continued heavy rainfall across Queensland’s south-east and the former track’s ability to better handle the wet conditions.

The Brisbane forecast today is for continued rainfall, meaning there will likely be a downgrade to the current Soft (6) Eagle Farm track rating.

Eagle Farm racing gets underway at 11:48am (AEST) and the nine-race card is set to conclude at 4:38pm (AEST).

There are four Group status races scheduled starting with Race 3 at 12:58pm (AEST) with the Group 3 JRA Chairman’s Handicap (2143m) for the potential Brisbane Cup-bound gallopers.

The 2022 JRA Chairman’s Handicap field remains intact at time of publish with markets at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the Chris Waller-trained import Djukon.

Later the two-year-old JJ Atkins hopefuls take to the track in Race 5 at 2:08pm (AEST) in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic (1200m) – formerly the Champagne Classic.

The 2022 Spirit Of Boom Classic field runs at capacity with the first two emergencies – Beau Witness (19) and Political Debate (10) – both gaining starts in the place of the withdrawn #2 Brereton (21) and #14 Tyresa (7).

Updated Spirit Of Boom Classic odds have the undefeated Tony Gollan-trained Capitalist colt Capital Tower as the easing favourite drawn barrier five with James Orman to ride.

The three-year-old Queensland Derby types are also on show towards the end of the day in Race 7 at 3:22pm (AEST) for the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2143m).

A trio of runners are out of the 2022 Rough Habit Plate field with: #4 Cape Breton (2), #5 Pinarello (14) and #6 Caboche (18) all scratched.

The latest Rough Habit Plate betting markets are dominated by James Cummings’ Queensland Guineas winner Character ($2.90), while there’s also been a tickle for Group 3 Frank Packer Plate winning filly out of Sydney Verona ($5) from the Maher/Eustace stable.

Of course, the meeting’s marquee event is the Group 1 $1 million Doomben 10,000 (1200m) set to run as Race 8 at 4:02pm (AEST).

The 2022 Doomben 10,000 field features 14 of the 15 original final acceptors with the withdrawn of the Danny Williams-trained Group 1 The Galaxy winner, #6 Shelby Sixtysix (14), who was scratched due to bruising in one foot.

Updated Doomben 10,000 odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au continuing to be led by the easing favourite Mazu ($3.40) for Team Snowden.

The gun three-year-old was last seen winning the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint, and chases a sixth win on the trot this afternoon.
