Ciaron Maher & David Eustace’s last start Robert Sangster Stakes winner Snapdancer has suffered an early blow drawing the far outside gate ahead of her shot at more elite level glory in Brisbane’s 2022 Tattersall’s Tiara this weekend.
A capacity field of fillies and mares take to the Eagle Farm track in the final Queensland Winter Racing Carnival Group 1 with the running of the $700,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
A winner of three of her past four starts, consistent Choisir five-year-old Snapdancer is the current $5.50 second elect through Ladbrokes.com.au easing in Tattersall’s Tiara betting markets after drawing gate 21.
She will jump from gate 16 of 16 with emergencies out and has Ethan Brown aboard again.
Brown partnered Snapdancer last time out at Morphettville on May 7 for her strong 1.5 length upset at big odds in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
The mare overcame gate 15 of 15 that run to defeat headliners Away Game and September Run, and looks a big hope of pulling out another stellar run this weekend in Brisbane off a lead-up trail win at Deagon over 1200m on June 14.
Sitting top of the Tattersall’s Tiara odds at $4.50 is the better-drawn Annavisto for Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr).
Drawn gate 11 for Ms Rachel King, the returning four-year-old was last seen running second to Nimalee at Randwick in April’s Group 1 Queen Of The Turf (1600m) in the wet.
A noted first-up performer with a strong record fresh (4:3-1-0), she presents as a big danger off her let-up.
The daughter of Reliable Man also boasts an excellent 1400m record (9:4-2-1) and is out to add to the excellent recent record of favourites in the race including Tofane’s victory for the punters last year.
Two other runners sit under $10 in betting post the final field announcement with the Rob Heathcote-trained filly Startantes ($9) the best of the local hopes, and Away Game ($9) also right in the mix.
Brisbane horseman Heathcote chases his maiden Tatt’s Tiara success and is hopeful his three-year-old daughter of Star Turn, Startantes, is the right filly to get the job done for the stable.
Runner-up in February’s Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) by a narrow margin, she presents rock hard fit here coming off a credible fifth behind Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
Cosmic Endeavour (2014) was the last three-year-old filly to beat home the older mares in the Tattersall’s Tiara results.
As for Away Game, she too represents the Maher/Eustace stable and is out to break a notable winning drought.
A former top-line filly, the now four-year-old daughter of Snitzel has not won a race since the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) on this day last year.
She has been competitive in plenty since including her second in this autumn’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) in Melbourne, and second again behind stablemate Snapdancer in the Robert Sangster.
Things went amiss for her last time out here on May 28 when 10th in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m), but she was far from disgraced that run finishing under three lengths off the winner Apache Chase from a wide alley.
Other notable Tiara hopes in 2022 include Shout The Bar for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, co-trainer Waterhouse chasing her third win overall in the event, and the Kris Lees-trained Wandabaa coming off a lead-up second in the Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) from June 4.
