Godolphin’s class young filly In Secret is tipped to beat home the boys as favourite in Coolmore Stud Stakes 2022 betting when she runs down the famous Flemington ‘Straight Six’ on Saturday.
A bumper field of 17 three-year-old sprinters take to the track at headquarters in Race 6 at 3:40pm (AEDT) on Derby Day including four fillies up against the colts and geldings.
Sitting top of the current Coolmore Stud Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au is the James Cummings-trained daughter of I Am Invincible, In Secret, at a quote of $3.80 and firming.
The season’s leading jockey and last year’s winning hoop aboard Home Affairs, James McDonald, has the ride from barrier six on the favourite this spring.
In Secret is out to be the third filly in five years to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes joining Sunlight (2018) and September Run (2020).
She has won three of her five starts most recently saluting by nearly two lengths when defeating Best Of Bordeaux in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) on September 10.
Last start she was extremely brave going down just a neck behind subsequent The Everest contender Jacquinot in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 24.
Kept fresh since, she now heads south for her Melbourne debut where she is expected to return to winning form.
The danger occupying the second line of Coolmore Stud Stakes betting at $5.50 is the aforementioned Jacquinot for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.
Damian Lane partners the gun Rubick colt, third in the Blue Diamond as a two-year-old.
He won the Group 1 Golden Rose second-up after a 1.5 length Group 3 HDF McNeil victory at Caulfield fresh defeating Aft Cabin, and he was far from disgraced when fifth only 1.55 lengths off fellow three-year-old Giga Kick in the $15 million The Everest at Randwick on October 15.
Jacquinot returns to Melbourne for the Coolmore on the back of that run drawn out in gate 16.
A further three runners are under $10 for the win with Group 1 winning filly Coolangatta ($8) in barrier 13 with Craig Williams aboard, Buenos Noches ($8.50) presenting as a threat out wide in barrier 15 off a second to Giga Kick in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at this track and distance, and the rails-drawn Blue Sapphire Stakes winner Grand Impact ($8.50) looking to remain undefeated from the Kent/Price stable.
The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained daughter of Written Tycoon, Coolangatta has won four from six to date and has a strong 1200m record (3:2-0-1).
Winner of the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast as a juvenile before her Golden Slipper third, she was last seen winning the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) second-up at The Valley in late September.
She was scratched from the rescheduled Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) that run on Cox Plate Day and was won by her stablemate Bella Nipotina and instead kept for her Coolmore Stud Stakes run on Saturday.
Other notable youngsters in the mix include the Annabel Neasham-trained Capitalist colt Economics ($12), Queenslander Best Of Bordeaux ($18) on the quick back-up off a third in the Manikato Stakes and the Gary Portelli-trained Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes winner Sejardan ($20) also racing on successive Saturdays.
