Godolphin’s eight-time Group 1 champion Anamoe is the horse to beat third-up and fit dominating 2023 George Ryder Stakes betting in Sydney on Saturday.
A bumper five elite level Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival events take place at Rosehill Gardens for Golden Slipper Day including the weight-for-age Group 1 $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m).
The event serves as a key lead-up into next month’s lucrative $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes showdown at Randwick and it is Anamoe tipped to take out both this and that over the next few weekends.
The James Cummings-trained son of Street Boss is already a $10 million earner at just four years of age and is after his third win from as many starts this prep.
The star stallion has previous winning form third-up and comes via a quality win from midfield to defeat Fangirl by over a length on February 25 in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).
He stays around that distance for the George Ryder against a number of the same rivals, but is zero value at an odds-on quote of $1.70 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Anamoe rates very highly in the event even drawing the outside alley (11) for top hoop James McDonald, and he looks a hard to beat favourite for the Royal Blue brigade.
Cummings also has last spring’s Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile in the mix at $11 drawn barrier eight for jockey Hugh Bowman.
The nice Astern colt shapes-up as potential top three value here having run well in both his lead-up performances this prep.
Fresh in late January he ran second in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) before running fourth in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m0 back-up to Group 1 level on March 4.
As a three-year-old he carries 56kg and can surprise a few at a price getting out to the mile.
The “danger” to Anamoe occupying the second line of betting at $7 is last start Canterbury Stakes winner Artorius prepared by Anthony & Sam Freedman.
Drawn the rails on Saturday second-up the Flying Artie four-year-old resumed off a lengthy seven-month let-up to win Canterbury Stakes a fortnight ago.
He impressed plenty returning down under off a very good international campaign last year that included a second-up third in the Group 1 July Cup (1207m) in the UK carrying 61kg.
At weight-for-age and fitter for his first-up success Artorius looks a genuine chance to come close to an upset with Mark Zahra aboard with the horse looking to emulate Forbidden Love (2022) in completing the Canterbury Stakes – George Ryder Stakes double last year.
In an eleven-horse George Ryder Stakes 2023 field just one other runner is currently at single-figures to stop the Anamoe stampede with Fangirl on offer for $9.50.
Waller’s smart Sebring four-year-old is also third-up having finished in the money twice behind Anamoe already this prep.
She resumed in Randwick’s Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) last month only a length back third before making up late ground to cross second in the Chipping Norton Stakes quinella in an eye-catching performance.
Fangirl jumps from barrier seven looking to turn the tables with Kerrin McEvoy booked for the ride.
At longer George Ryder Stakes odds forgotten by the punters at $18 is Fangirl’s younger stablemate Osipenko.
The bonny Pierro filly was fifth fresh on February 4 behind Aft Cabin in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) before improving to defeat Zou Tiger in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) here at Rosehill a fortnight later.
She’s been kept fresh for the George Ryder and lines-up as a key hope from barrier nine with Nash Rawiller in the saddle.
The George Ryder Stakes 2023 is set to run as Rosehill Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEDT) with full markets thanks to Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
