Warrnambool Cup 2024 Field & Betting Update: Little Mix Favourite

The Warrnambool Cup 2024 takes central stage in coastal Victoria on Thursday with a talented field gathered for the time-honoured clash at The ‘Bool.

The Listed $300,000 Warrnambool Cup (2350m) field is at capacity and currently includes first emergency Nordic Pride coming in for Lindsey Smith’s early withdrawal, the widely-drawn Horrifying.

Current Warrnambool Cup betting odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have talented Mahisara mare Little Mix on top at $4.20 for trainer Annabel Neasham.

The five-year-old is a two-time runner-up at the Warrnambool Cup distance and comes into the race off a string of good runs.

She was a back-to-back Group 3 fourth place-getter at Rosehill over the autumn before an eye-catching second to Esti Feny in the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) from a wide alley on April 20.

Fit now she is up in the weights to 58kg, but has Blake Shinn aboard from a favourable gate two draw putting her right in the mix for a big run and potential win for the punters.

Following closely occupying the second line of Warrnambool Cup betting at $5 is the Ciaron Maher-trained Cadre Du Noir drawn wide (19) with John Allen to ride third-up.

The American-bred War Front eight-year-old fell during a hurdle event in August last year, but has returned in good order with two lead-up runs this March.

The latest was at Rosehill in the Gorup 3 Neville Sellwood (2000m) where he placed 3.6 lengths back sixth with improvement to come as he gets up to his pet distance now (5:3-2-0).

Despite a full field there is currently just one other hopeful at single-figure Warrnambool Cup odds to win on Thursday with the defending champion Rolls the heavily-backed market mover.

The money has come hard and fast since final acceptances for Maddie Raymond’s seven-year-old to go back-to-back and become the first dual Warrnambool Cup winner since Hissing Sid (2009-10).

Rolls is out to be the first two-time Warrnambool Cup champ since Hissing Sid in 2009 and 2010

After opening at $21 in the markets, Rolls is now right into $9.50 to salute in the event again.

He is drawn a treat in gate nine for jockey Harry Grace and has the confidence of a last start victory over 1700m at the track when carting 58kg to victory on April 30.

Rolls drops right back to 54.5kg in the Warrnambool Cup weights and looks every hope to claim the title for a second time.

The other best in the markets at slightly longer odds include the David Noonan-trained Think ‘N’ Fly ($10) coming off a devastatingly close second to arran Bay at Mornington, Ferago ($10) who is a son of 2013 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente, the 60kg top-weight Suizuro ($11), and Puissance De Lune grey Fengarada ($13) coming off a second to Rolls here in his first run since October 2022.

The 2024 Warrnambool Cup is set to run as Warrnambool Race 9 at 3:55pm (AEST) on Thursday’s bumper 10-race card with full markets from Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
