2024 Stradbroke Handicap Tips & Best Bets

The Stradbroke Handicap 2024 steals the show in Brisbane on Saturday and below we have our insider tips on Queensland’s richest race.

Benedetta

A gun field is gathered for the Group 1 $3 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm including Ciaron Maher’s Doomben 10,000 winning mare Bella Nipotina who carries the top weight.

Current Stradbroke Handicap odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have last weekend’s Group 2 Moreton Cup winner Vilana as the $5 favourite for the Godolphin stable to handle the quick turnaround and salute again.

So, will Vilana do the double or is an upset Stradbroke Handicap result pending?

Read on to find out our exclusive Stradbroke Handicap 2024 best bets.

The Favourite: #6 Vilana ($5 at time of publish) – BET NOW

The Godolphin-raced Vilana drew out in gate 14 but is firm favourite now into $5 to claim this year’s Stradbroke. Trainer James Cummings won the event in 2019 with Trekking and looks a genuine hope to salute again with the punters’ pick on Saturday. Vilana is fourth-up and fit now ready to fire on the quick back-up. Last weekend on Oaks Day at the Eagle Farm track the Hallowed Crown five-year-old won the Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) by a big 3.67 length margin with 56kg. He is down to 53kg now in the Group 1 over further. He’ll easily handle the distance, looks well-weighted and well-placed, and has Tim Clark coming aboard. Ticks plenty of boxes.

Best Bet: #4 Benedetta ($12 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Tipping an upset with Benedetta on top at 11/1 at time of publish. Jason Warren’s mare has won two of her past three starts and is going great guns. She is drawn to get the run of the race in gate six and Daniel Stackhouse is in the saddle. The ultra-consistent Hellbent four-year-old has already amassed $1.74 in stakes thanks to eight wins from her 15 starts to date. First go at Eagle Farm, but she’s been up against the best this year and handling herself very well. Back-to-back Melbourne Group 1 fourths in the autumn including only crossing 1.65 lengths off Cylinder down the Flemington straight in the Newmarket. Latest was at Morphettville on May 11 where she won the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m). Subsequent Doomben trial to keep her ticking over, has won up to 1300m so think she’ll be alright at the distance. Great value.

Best Roughie: #11 Prince Of Boom ($41 at time of publish) – BET NOW

One of the forgotten horses in this year’s Stradbroke Handicap field looks to be Robert Heathcote’s local hope Prince Of Boom who is a genuine roughie at 40/1 despite some promising lead-up form and a good gate seven draw. Tyler Schiller rides the Spirit Of Boom five-year-old on just 52.5kg with the horse chasing his fourth win from 10 runs at the Eagle Farm track. Yet to win over further than 1200m, hence the market offering. Has placed once from four goes at the 1400m however and could finish in the money again here. A multiple Group 2 winner coming off a one length third behind Here To Shock in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben. Solid there with 58.5kg and will be flying with the big drop in weight. Can surprise.
