Jockey James Doyle who was second past the post on the Chris Waller trained Oklahoma Girl but fired in a protest against John Allen on first past the post Kenedna after the fillies bumped on several occasions in the straight with only a short neck between them on the line.

After both jockeys gave evidence in the stewards’ room, the protest was dismissed.

Kenedna and Oklahoma Girl are certain to meet again in the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 3.

Jockey John Allen settled Kenedna ($3 favourite) mid-field and the filly finished strongly down the middle of the track to hold off Oklahoma Girl ($8.50) who was also strong to the line.

Outsider Perilous Love ($31) ran home for third place.

Weir was pleased to see Kenedna hold her form after finishing second to Egg Tart in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Oaks (registered as Australasian Oaks) (2000m) at Morphettville on May 6.

“Had a lovely run throughout the race. As long as she was finding the line that was the plan,” Weir said.

The Chris Waller trained Oklahoma Girl also handled the step up to the 2000m after coming off a last start third over 1800m in a BenchMark 78 Handicap at Rosehioll on May 6.
