Eight Confirmed in The Rosebud Field

Only eight three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Listed The Rosebud (1100m); the feature race at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Menari was a standout performer for Gerald Ryan through the recent Autumn Carnival and has drawn ideally into The Rosebud field in barrier 5.

Debuting for a smart win in the TAB Rewards Plate (1100m) on January 14th, Menari ran second behind Pariah in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) before returning from a freshen-up to finishing fifth in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).

Third past the post in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) before being relegated to fourth on protest, the Snitzel colt simply failed to fire when tenth in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships, but has trialled well in the lead-up to his competitive return.

Siege Of Quebec is yet to contest a race under black type conditions, but he has been outstanding through two starts so far and is set to start the race a clear favourite in betting markets.

Debuting for a smart win at Newcastle on June 27th, Siege Of Quebec appeared to be dropping out of contention in the #TheRaces Handicap (1400m) last time out on July 15th, but mustered an impressive late kick to win the race by half a length.

Drawn ideally on the rails, the Fastnet Rock colt will carry only 54.5kgs and has a fitness edge on several of his rivals in this race.

Diamond Tathagata has only run on rain-affected tracks through his short career, but he appears as though he will only be better on a good surface and is primed for a big first-up run in The Rosebud.

Debuting for second behind She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursery, Diamond Tathagata resumed this year for a smart win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) before running on for a credible seventh in the Golden Slipper.

While failing to produce much in the Inglis Sires, the Hinchinbrook colt beat home an impressive field including Winx in a recent Randwick trial and should be ready to perform first-up.

I Am Excited is yet to miss a place through her short racing career so far and has drawn into The Rosebud field ideally in barrier 3, with in-form hoop Corey Brown in the saddle.

Debuting for third in the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1200m) at Scone, I Am Excited was last seen breaking her maiden in a 1200m sprint at Warwick Farm on May 31st.

Godolphin runner Trekking (barrier 2), Overshare (barrier 7), Perast (barrier 8) and Lightz (barrier 4) complete the 2017 Rosebud field.
