There will be a capacity 16 three-year-old fillies lining-up in this year’s Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions The Roses (2000m) when the classic Oaks lead-up runs as Doomben Race 7 at 3:10pm (AEST).

It is currently a tight battle for top spot in The Roses betting at Ladbrokes.com.au between market mover Youngstar ($4.20) who has surpassed the Clarry Conners-trained Torvill ($4.50) at the top.

After a nice barrier four draw, the untapped High Chaparral filly Youngstar has been well-backed by the punters to hand trainer Chris Waller a win.

She is up notably in class, but was impressive at Newcastle on April 28 making it two wins on the trot with a barnstorming three length success over 1885m suggesting she will eat-up the extra distance on Saturday.

One-time The Roses favourite Torvill meanwhile is on the drift, the Not A Single Doubt filly coming off the eye-catching lead-up win at the track in the Listed The Bracelet (1360m).

Outside of the dominant duo in The Roses odds there are three others under $10 for the win on way to the Group 1 $500,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) on May 26 including Waller’s Bracelet runner-up Another Dollar ($6.50) is bred to stay being a daughter of Ocean Park.

So will the best in betting salute in the Doomben Roses results or is there value to be had this winter further down the markets from the likes of The Bracelet fourth placed Play That Song ($8) or the Matthew Dunn-trained La Scopa ($17) who get held-up in The Bracelet last time out?

Our 2018 The Roses Trifecta Tip is #5 Another Dollar from #1 Torvill and #6 Global Thinking

1st

#5 Another Dollar ($6.50)

Tipping two-time Queensland Oaks winning trainer Chris Waller to win with the better priced of his two runners, Another Dollar drawn wide but with time to overcome the alley. This daughter of Ocean Park should appreciate the 2000m getting the chance to improve on her second to Torvill in The Bracelet last time out. Jeff Lloyd retains the ride on this consistent filly who covered all the late ground last time out and looks a genuine hope to return to winning form here.

2nd

#1 Torvill ($4.50)

The Bracelet winner is growing in value to do the double. One of the widest drawn, but that doesn’t look too much of a problem after she did it from barrier 15 of 15 at the track last time out. Has raced over 2000m before when sixth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in late March. This is easier and she’s coming in with confidence. Has class, proven by the Surround Stakes second to Shoals who franked the form winning last weekend’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide. Nice form lines.

3rd

#6 Global Thinking ($21)

Blowout odds on offer for Shaune Ritchie’s Kiwi expat who is now based at the Gold Coast. Well-bred daughter of So You Think makes her down under debut and should handle the distance having won over a mile back home by over two lengths earlier this year. Any give in the ground also works in her favour and she gets a run from the draw.
