Favourite Arcadia Queen has firmed further in the betting for the Group 1 $1m Magic Millions Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday following the barrier draw.
The Grant and Alana Williams trained Arcadia Queen drew barrier six in the fifteen horse Kingston Town Classic field and has firmed in from $2.80 to be $2.50 at the top of the market order at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Arcadia Queen is one of four runners for Perth’s biggest owner Bob Peters and he is sticking with the three year old filly as his top fancy.
Peters will also see his cerise and white colours go around on Galaxy Star, Perfect Jewel and Star Exhibit.
Galaxy Star’s odds have lengthened to $5 after the Railway Stakes winner drew out wide at fourteen while Perfect Jewel came up with barrier four and is quoted at $18 and Star Exhibit is a $34 chance after drawing gate seven.
Peters can see Perth’s leading jockey William Pike giving Arcadia Queen a nice run just behind the speed but admits that Galaxy Star might have to settle back in the field from the wide gate for Chris Parnham.
“There’s a lot of speed in it,” Peters told The West Australian.
“Three or four inside her will go forward and there are a couple outside her that will, too. The first 200 will be interesting.
“Because of the racing style I’ll put my neck out and go with the filly.
“Galaxy Star will be out the back as usual.”
Pike had the choice to ride both Arcadia Queen and Galaxy Star in the Kingston Town Classic after steering both to victory at Ascot on November 24, but chose the three year old filly Arcadia Queen who only has to carry 50kg under the weight for age conditions.
Arcadia Queen proved to be the superior three year old in winning the Group 2 $500,000 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas (1600m) while Galaxy Star stormed home from back in the field to win the Group 1 $1m Kirin Railway Stakes (1600m).
Trainer Jarrod McLean said that Trap For Fools is in great order to chase back to back Group 1 wins after an all the way victory in the $2m Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 10 and the Victorian trainer expects Damien Oliver to let the five year go forward again from barrier ten.
The Simon Miller trainer Achernar Star ($34) has drawn the rails while the $101 roughie Prying Tom will jump from the outside gate.
Betting for the 2018 Kingston Town Classic at Ladbrokes.com.au: $2.50 Arcadia Queen, $5 Galaxy Star, $7 Trap For Fools, $9 Material Man, $12 Gatting, $14 Holy Snow, $18 Perfect Jewel, $21 Iconoclasm, $34 Mister Sea Wolf, Achernar Star, Great Shot, Star Exhibit, $101 Elegant Blast, Heart Starter, Prying Tom.
