Seven O’Dea’s in-form local mare Jami Lady produced an outstanding all-the-way performance in the last at Eagle Farm on Saturday continuing her winning streak in the Listed $125,000 Bright Shadow Quality (1200m).
Returning from her 1000m win at the track back on Stradbroke Handicap Day a month ago, and kept fit with a subsequent winning trial at Deagon, the progressive four-year-old daughter of Spirit Of Boom celebrated her maiden Black-Type win in the 2020 Bright Shadow Quality results.
Having her first Listed run since the close fourth when only two lengths off the winner Signore Fox in Eagle Farm’s Daybreak Lover Stakes a year earlier, Jami Lady relished a drop-in weight off her lead-up run.
On Stradbroke Day she carted 59.5kg to victory with Boris Thornton aboard and she absolutely flew around the track down to 55.5kg in the Bright Shadow with the same hoop in the saddle.
Brilliant out the gates, Jami Lady took up the early lead and went on to destroy her rivals in a career best performance.
Jami Lady went on to defeat the Chris Waller-trained Fiesta who ran on well late out wide, while Pennino rounded out the trifecta in third ahead of last start Dane Ripper winner Love You Lucy who ran fourth.
“She’s built a really consistent record and she definitely deserved a Black-Type win next to her name,” winning trainer O’Dea told Sky Racing post-race.
“She’s been placed in stakes company before and probably I’ve always thought she’s a better horse with a sit and a little bit of cover but I think she’s matured now.
“She was able to take up the lead…she really controlled it in front and she was strong right through the line so it was really good to see her do that today.”
O’Dea confirmed Jami Lady would now head to Ipswich in a fortnight, going up in distance for a shot at the Listed $125,000 Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) for the fillies and mares on July 18.
“We’ll head to the Gai Waterhouse now it will obviously be her first go at a slightly longer trip but as I’ve said, I think she’s definitely matured,” he said.
“She’s starting to relax a bit better in her races and probably a track like Ipswich will suit her.”
