The Everest 2024 field is complete with all 12 horses contending this season’s $20 million sprint at Randwick on October 19 now confirmed with news Coolmore contender Storm Boy will be ridden by Brenton Avdulla in the world’s richest turf race.
All slot holders have now locked in their runners including a trio of three-year-old runners with Growing Empire to be ridden by three-time The Everest winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, Lady Of Camelot to have Rachel King in the saddle and the fellow Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Storm Boy’s rider confirmed as Avdulla.
Avdulla will fly in from Hong Kong for the ride on the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning Justify colt whose latest run was a fourth in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).
Storm Boy is at a current quote of $15 in the latest The Everest odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au.
His Golden Slipper winning stablemate Lady Of Camelot, third in this year’s Moir Stakes before a midfield seventh in The Shorts, pays $34 as the current outsider in The Everest betting to become the first filly to take out the weight-for-age showdown.
The other gun youngster looking to beat home the older runners, Growing Empire, is better fancied with $6 on offer for Ciaron Maher‘s Manikato Stakes second placed Zoustar colt.
Maher has three runners in this year’s The Everest field with his classy mares Bella Nipotina ($6) and I Am Me ($21) also confirmed runners.
Multiple Group 1 winner Bella Nipotina is another top elect in the markets with the seven-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai coming off two good lead-up runs.
She comes via two of the traditional The Everest stepping-stones when second fresh to her stablemate I Am Me in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) before a brave third behind shock winner Airman in last weekend’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m).
Current favourite to win this year’s The Everest is the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained I Wish I Win ($5) who Luke Nolen has been confirmed to ride with horse and hoop looking to atone for their devastatingly close second in 2023 behind Think About It.
“Luke has ridden ‘Wish’ to absolute precision in his two starts in Melbourne,” co-trainer Moody told the media this week.
“After last year’s unlucky second, Luke is as hungry as we are to get the job done in this year’s Everest.”
The defending The Everest champion Think About It and two-time placegetter Private Eye both line-up again for trainer Joseph Pride in 2024.

Race comments
BELLA NIPOTINA (4) tough mare who gets better with age. Conditions suit and like the way she attacked the line in the Concorde first up and when third over this track and trip in the G2 Premiere Stakes at latest. Craig Williams has a great record on her and she just needs luck early from the draw. GIGA KICK (2) won this race in 2022 and looks set to explode third up. Strong late in the Premiere and has trained on sharply since. Adept in all conditions and will relish the good tempo. JOLIESTAR (8) exciting mare who returned slick sectional times first up when winning the G3 Show County over this track in good style. Disappointed when third over this trip in the G2 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill and since kept up to the mark with a 1000m tick over trial. J Mac rides and she ticks plenty of boxes from the draw. I AM ME (5) has gone to a new level this prep and is undefeated in two attempts over this track and trip. Maps to get every chance with Rawiller up and stays in the mix.
