Chris Waller‘s Ladbrokes Cox Plate champion mare Via Sistina is the hot odds-on favourite in Ranvet Stakes 2025 betting this Golden Slipper Day to add an eighth Group 1 title to her imposing record.

The brilliant daughter of Fastnet Rock is the standout acceptor in this year’s Group 1 $1 million Ranvet Stakes (2000m) field at Rosehill where the bonny seven-year-old is the $1.45 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au to go back-to-back with a successful title defence.
She won last year’s Ranvet in her Australian race debut for Waller in style and went on to dominate the spring of 2024 with plenty more top-level success headlined by her incredible eight-length romp home in the prestigious Cox Plate race at Moonee Valley.
Last start Via Sistina atoned for a narrow first-up third in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes when turning the tables on her stablemates to salute for the punters in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on March 1.
She now dominates the Ranvet Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au to continue her success and become the first dual Ranvet Stakes winner since Tie The Knot (2000 & 2001).
Waller’s ill-fated Melbourne Cup winning mare Verry Elleegant (2021) was the last runner to complete the then Chipping Norton Stakes/Ranvet Stakes double that Via Sistina attempts on the weekend.
It may be a diminutive seven-horse field gathered for this year’s Ranvet but what it lacks in numbers it certainly makes up for in class.
Waller plays a strong hand launching a three-pronged attack with Via Sistina joined in the starting line-up by two of her stablemates with Lindermann and Full Count Felicia paying $8.50 and $10 respectively.
Lindermann won the Rosehill Guineas on this Day back in 2023, and the now five-year-old son of Lonhro chases his second career Group 1 success from gate 7 with Damian Lane to ride on Saturday.
He presents fit fourth-up off three excellent lead-up runs this autumn in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (2nd), Group 1 Verry Elleegant (3rd) and the Group 3 Sky High (3rd) last weekend.
Lindermann then is on the quick back-up after completing the Sky High trifecta as the beaten odds-on fancy at this track and trip last Saturday when 1.28 lengths beaten by Vauban.
He goes well with plenty of racing so will handle the short turnaround.
Full Count Felicia though is the intriguing Waller runner with the American bred War Front mare debuting for the stable.
The imported six-year-old runs for the first time since her Group 1 Breeders Cup seventh in the States last November prior to which she won the Group 1 Taylor Stakes over this distance in Cananda in mid-September.
If she races anywhere up to that performance than she presents as a genuine danger to perhaps emulate Via Sistina in saluting in the Ranvet first-up in Australia from overseas.
Adding more international flavour to the race this year is the William Haggas trained Al Mubhir ($7).
UK horseman Haggas won the Ranvet back in back in 2020 with Addeybb and is in with another genuine shot at the title against the local hopes this season.
Al Mubhir is a well-bred son of Frankle drawn barrier six with Tom Marquand, who rode Addeybb to glory here five years ago, engaged.
Last year’s Rosehill Gold Cup champ Fawkner Park ($11) is the other most likely for Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald.
Tyler Schiller partners the Zoffany six-year-old second-up after guiding him to a strong fourth fresh in the Verry Elleegant where, after being eased back the early stages, he ran through the line well as a 40/1 outsider only 1.58 lengths beaten by the Waller winner.
The Kiwi bred Golden Path ($35) and Maher’s rails-drawn French import Zarakem ($71), who ran dead last in the Verry Elleegant to kick off his Australian racing career, complete the field.
The 2025 Ranvet Stakes is scheduled as Rosehill Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race Sydney card.
