Tomorrow as part of the elite line-up of Group races running at Caulfield’s CF Orr Stakes Day, a top field of runners will take to the track to contest the $125,000 Group 3 Rubition Stakes (1100m) and the Races.com.au have provided the winning 2011 Rubiton Stakes Betting Tips below.
There are currently 12 horses engaged to race in the Rubiton Stakes tomorrow following the early scratching of #11 Master Of Design due to a foot abscess.
Of the field, #1 Catapulted is the favourite paying $4.40 to win through Luxbet.
The Mark Kavanagh-trained Catbird gelding is first-up for the season and is due to jump from barrier six as the 58kg top-weight.
A multiple Group winner and placegetter, at their last start Catapulted ran ninth to Whitefriars in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on an unsuitably heavy track on Victoria Derby Day.
Prior to that the five-year-old proved they showed they could match it with the best twice running second behind hulking sprinter Hay List in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m).
However, the punters are still keen to take Catapulted for the win as the gelding has a commanding first-up record having won three and placed second twice from his five first-up runs.
It is a classy field facing off in this year’s Rubiton Stakes and we think the value pick to win is $8 chance Reward For Effort.
Caulfield Race 8 Betting Tips – 2011 Rubiton Stakes
- Races.com.au Favourite: #2 Reward For Effort – Rated Special to Win – Bet now at Luxbet
- Best Place / Exotic Bets: #1 Catapulted, #13 Solar Charged and #7 Faster Son
Peter Moody’s previous Blue Diamond Stakes winner, Reward For Effort is out wider in barrier nine for tomorrow but has the ability to spear across the pack and win at good odds.
During the spring the Exceed And Excel four-year-old took out the Group 3 Concorde Stakes before running third to Hay List in the Group 3 McEwen Stakes 9100m) and then seventh again behind Hay List in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Caulfield is Reward For Effort’s preferred track and returning here tomorrow with a nice 57kg weight, dropping back 1.5kg from their last two runs, we are tipping a return to form.
Catapulted cannot be ignored and will finish second while for third place, Charge Forward filly Solar Charged looks a good pick as the 53kg lightweight of the field and favourable barrier four draw.
The John O’Shea-trained Solar Charged produced some impressive runs last year including her 4 ½ length victory in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield and should be right up there on the line when resuming here.
There has also been a lot of love for Faster Son in the Rubiton markets, the Gold Coast galloper having won six of their seven career starts but as yet untested at stakes level.
The 2011 David Christensen Rubiton Stakes is set to run as Caulfield Race 8 tomorrow, jumping at 5:10pm (AEDST).
