The third race of the illustrious Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington has been won by the Michael Moroney-trained stayer Linton Street.

It was just the sixth start for Linton Street who defeated runner-up Juan Carlos (ridden by Luke Nolen) by three-quarters of a length with Courtney (ridden by Glen Boss) in third and Doosra Diamond managing to cross the line for fourth.

The 2800m handicap event was contested by a 17 horse field of C-Grade stayers and Linton Street, the most inexperienced runner, proved to be the fittest on the day.

With 150m to go eventual third-placegetter Courtney was leading the field before Linton Street made his move at the 50m mark.

Favourite for the race, the Bart Cummings-trained Think Money (ridden by Michael Rodd) drifted to $3.50 from $2.80 prior to the start before running a lackluster race failing to place despite jumping nicely from barrier three.

It was a disappointing race for Rodd, one of the last two Melbourne Cup winning jockeys alongside Blake Shinn, neither of who have a mount in the Cup today.
