Caulfield Run For Black Caviar Next Race

Connections of the world’s best mare Black Caviar has confirmed that the soon-to-return spring queen will make a special appearance for her fans at Caulfield Racecourse ahead of her swansong campaign this autumn.

Black Caviar is set to gallop between races at Caulfield on February 2 in her first public apperance for 2013

The undefeated Bel Esprit six-year-old hasn’t made a public appearance since her gallant international debut, Black Caviar taking her flawless career record to 22 wins from as many starts with a tough victory in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1207m) at England’s Royal Ascot.

However the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) has this week confirmed the queen of the turf will grace her home course at Caulfield for an exhibition gallop between races on February 2 which is the Club’s National Jockeys’ Trust Day.

“We are so pleased to give the public of Melbourne the opportunity to come and see Black Caviar as she prepares to embark upon her final campaign,” MRC Chief Executive Alasdair Mr Robertson said.

“Caulfield has been Black Caviar’s home for four years, and was the scene of her first black type win (in the 2009 Blue Sapphire Stakes).

“It is most fitting that she be welcomed back to the turf from her memorable victory at Ascot, at Caulfield.”

The gallop will give trainer Peter Moody and connections including part-owner Neil Werret the chance to officially quash the rumours that Black Caviar is well above her racing weight and far from race fit.

“Very pleased, looking forward to the Lightning on the 16th of February,” Moody said when asked how ‘Nelly’ was progressing.

Fellow owners David & Jill Taylor and Gary & Kerrin Wilkie will also make a special appearance on the day.

The superstar is then likely to kick off her last campaign a fortnight later at Flemington in the $700,000 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) renamed in her honour for 2013 as she shoots for her third consecutive win in the sprint classic.
